Dutch Lady Msia drives nutritional awareness among students

Spreading the goodness of milk through Dutch Lady Malaysia’s Back to School campaign

KOTA KINABALU - Dutch Lady Milk Industries Berhad (Dutch Lady Malaysia) visited 2 primary schools and 260 kindergartens in Sabah and Sarawak, including Sekolah Seri Insan and SJK(C) Lok Yuk Likas in Sabah. This was part of the Company’s ‘Back to School’ campaign to drive awareness on healthy eating habits and highlight the importance of consuming the right nutrition to optimise students learning capacity.

“As a brand that advocates quality nutrition, Dutch Lady Malaysia believes that children should be educated on the importance of choosing the right food as it acts as an energy source for them to stay focused in the classroom,” said Ramjeet Kaur, Marketing Manager of Dutch Lady Malaysia.

During these visits, kindergarten children were entertained by a puppet show explaining the goodness of milk and a sing-along session with Dutch Lady’s Kid mascot, Molly. The children also received Dutch Lady UHT Kid milk packs and an exclusive stationary set.

On the other hand, primary school students were taught how to prepare easy, balanced meals at home before attending classes. A few student volunteers were called on stage to demonstrate the preparation of an egg mayonnaise sandwich, coupled with a glass of milk. The students were thrilled to witness how simple, fast and quick it can be to prepare a healthy meal. Lastly, an interactive question and answer session, was held with the students which focused on the importance of consuming milk as part of a balanced diet.

“This has certainly been an educational and interactive event where students themselves are involved in the session. The team in Dutch Lady Malaysia demonstrated that breakfast-making can be done effortlessly while educating the students on the importance of consuming breakfast every day. We are glad that Dutch Lady Malaysia came up with the ‘Back to School’ initiative to create this awareness,” said Madam Chong, a teacher from SJK(C) Lok Yuk Likas.

Dutch Lady UHT School milk packs were also handed out in an innovative and cute meal container shaped like a cow, known as ‘Bekas Moo’. The container came with a complete meal consisting of peanut butter raisin cereal sandwiches with Dutch Lady School milk.

According to a student from SJK(C) Lok Yuk Likas, the session has not only taught them how to prepare a quick and healthy meal, but also educated them on the importance of creating the right balance to their diet. “I had a lot of fun during the session as I have learnt that making my own breakfast is not as difficult as I thought it would be. It has also taught me to choose the right items to be included into my meal,” said Jasper Lim, 11, who participated in the meal preparation activity.

“Through these activities, we are giving these children the right start to a healthier diet which will facilitate their overall physical progress,” Ramjeet expressed. “It is also essential to have milk as an integral part of their daily diet, as it is known as a nutrient dense food that contains vitamins and minerals, which are essential to children’s holistic growth,” she explained.

Dutch Lady Malaysia acknowledges that children have different nutritional requirements that vary with the different stages of growth. Thus, they have formulated Dutch Lady UHT School to cater to primary school students, packed with Omega 3 and Omega 6, Vitamin B3 and Vitamin B6, which will help for optimum development during academic years and improve attention span in school. As for pre-school children, Dutch Lady UHT Kid contain nutrients like Magnesium, Vitamin D, Vitamin A, Calcium and Protein, which are essential for physical rapid growth and development.

The Company has been distributing milk to select schools since 2010 under the Program Susu Sekolah 1Malaysia (PS1M) initiative, where they have also been educating students on the benefits of milk.

“We hope that our efforts in advocating a healthy and balanced diet have made an impact not only to the students but also to the society at large and we intend to continue these efforts of creating awareness while spreading the goodness of milk,” concluded Ramjeet.
