Gov't hypocritical on issues of justice and social harmony

We cannot count the number of times the Prime Minister has assured Malaysians about his desire for unity and social harmony in Malaysia, ideals he had demonstrated with the introduction of the 1Malaysia concept.

But then he turns around and say that the government "will continue to uphold Islam and protect its sanctity, including protecting the use of the word 'Allah' [only for Muslims] with the mandate given by the people" as if this electoral mandate gives the government the right to deny the rights of, and oppress, non-Muslimn Malaysians.

I agree with Lim Sue Goan (Malaysian Insider, July 2) the national reconciliation programme proposed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has not yet been implemented.

"Reconciliation should be based on social harmony and democracy and it is impossible to achieve reconciliation without these conditions.

Extreme racism has emerged after the general election, including questioning on multi-stream and mother-tongue education, which has violated the 1Malaysia concept.

Recent events have also upset the people, including the Administration of the Religion of Islam (Federal Territories) Bill 2013.... These moves have violated the principle of 'fairness, reasonableness and legitimation'."

Unity in Malaysia is in tatters, what with NGOs like Perkasa and Jati whipping up the Malay supremacy and Muslim sentiments.

The only positive response I know is from Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye who had proposed the setting up of a unity council to look into issues and problems relating to national unity and racial integration.

The 1Malaysia Foundation trustee  said the panel should comprise representatives of interested groups or individuals who could offer suggestions on how to bring the nation together after what he described as a heated and bitterly contested general election.

He said what Malaysia needed at this point of time was “ethnic bridge builders instead of ethnic heroes. We need such people to neutralize the politics of hatred, racial polarization and racial exclusiveness that seems to be on the rise.

It is now time for Malaysians to take a stand against divisive forces that can tear apart our social fabric and cause disunity." Sadly, his appeals seem to be falling on deaf ears.

Another shameful failure in fostering social harmony in Malaysia is by the Department of National Unity and Integration (DNUI) which even set up a tracking system, e-Sepakat, in 2007 with the help of the police, communities and its own DNUI officers.
But what are the results of this programme?

It has developed the Societal Stress Index (SSI), which is to identify high-risk areas and issues that require immediate attention, including terror, riots, demonstrations, protests, attacks, quarrels and issues.

The problem with DNUI is that it is so bureaucratic with no political teeth, operating on an obsolete and sluggish routine with no sense of urgency.

Whatever they achieve is easily nullified by the words and behaviour of crackpot and extremist politicians who are never chided by the Prime Minister. In sum, the DNUI is a useless institution, operating like an academic body spending the people's money with little achievement in terms of uniting Malaysians.

It has been said that Malaysia takes a holistic approach to human rights in that it views all rights as indivisible and interdependent.

The Prime Minister and his deputy talk about holistic approach in social management. And this holistic approach is the supposed reason for ridiculously forcing non-Muslim tertiary students to take Islamic studies in the colleges and universities.

In Malaysia, the rights if every citizen are protected by legal provisions in the Federal Constitution, which spells out the fundamental rights of all persons, including minorities, including the natives of Sabah and Sarawak.

But it is reasoned that these rights are not absolute and are subject to, among others, public order, morality and security of the country.

What is accepted as absolute is the right to bully non-Muslims.

While upholding the universal principles of human rights, Malaysia claims to "accentuate its human rights values which take into account the history of the country as well as the religious, social and cultural diversities of its communities, to ensure that the respect for social harmony is preserved and protected."

But in reality this is not practiced.  The country, claiming to be a staunch protector of human rights, participates actively in the local arena and international fora in order to demonstrate that it is "truly committed towards improving its human rights system," but it's all play-acting to the international community. Non-Muslim and non-Malay Malaysians see and feel a different picture.

Isn't it tragic that our Prime Minister seems so eager to promote social harmony for Malaysian unity but at the same so weak and tongue-tied when it comes to the need to speak out against his own minions go against his unity agenda?

This hypocrisy on his part cannot go on, because as it is dragging Malaysia towards the path of trouble, frustration and disharmony.

If it is true that he is not chiding his mid-rank leaders over incitement of racial hatred because he is afraid of one powerful Umno leader, or because the majority of leaders in Umno are adamant to hold on to the old order of Malay supremacy, then he should re-evaluate his leadership's relevance.

  1. I am fed up pretending to be nice to Muslims. Why? Because Muslim ethics are like MAFIA ethics.

So as you can see, we CANNOT be nice to muslims, simply because they are not nice to non muslims. Face the facts

    1. DID NOT NAJIB ALSO THREATENED THAT THE STREETS WILL BE DRENCHED WITH BLOOD....1997 (?)

We should not spread generalised stereotyping of Muslims as not all are like those opportunistic UMNO pseudo fundamentalists. They manipulated ordinary Muslims by playing the race religion card. Because of this hype being played up by UMNO for over 50 years, Malays have been misled into thinking they must at all cost maintain their no longer justifiable dominant position politically, socially economically and in religion. These are UMNO's supremacist apartheid Nazi ideas.

But your points can be given another perspective:

      1. Once you get in, YOU CAN'T LEAVE, otherwise you get killed-
THIS IS UMNO'S ATTITUDE AFTER THEY ANNEXED SABAH & SARAWAK INTO MALAYSIA IN 1963. Despite Tunku A Rahman's racists appeal to the Borneo Malay people (not related to Malayan Malays) the Brueni Malays rejected Malaysia and even took up arms in the anti-Malaysia Uprising to reject Malaysia.

However, UMNO was determine to proceed with grabbing Borneo territories even though rejected by Brunei. So they stole Sabah and Sarawak independence and land.

UMNO will never peacefully give up Sabah and Sarawak. They have a huge army in our countries in case we rebel against their imperialist domination.

Thus when S'pore left and Sabah and Sarawak were also keen to leave, KL sacked Sarawak CM Ningkan and edged out Sabah CM Stephens and declare a "state of emergency" to prevent "secession" moves.

      2. Members of the Mafia and Islam regard themselves as 'family' even when unrelated.
UMNO mafia gang include Taib of Sarawak and Musa of Sabah in the oppression and exploitation of the 2 countries wealth.

      3. Outsiders can't be trusted and shouldn't be befriended, though they may be used to benefit the syndicate.
UMNO Malay monopolise the positions of power and dominate ever one else.

      4. Contracts are taken out on enemies ( fatwas in Islam and other rewards for killing enemies)
UMNO fought Sarawak independence guerrilla forces from 1962 to 1990 but suppressed news of this war so as not to popularize the independence struggle and broaden the struggle of Sarawakians and Sabahans (the war could have spread to Sabah).

      5. Protection rackets and extortion (jizya in Islam.) Malaysian non Muslims also pay jizya, look it up
Malaysia is one giant PONZI Scheme created by UK in cahoots with UMNO Malaya to re-colonise Borneo colonies. It was both a con game and outright annexation of Sabah Sarawak by Malaya in 1963.

One of the main argument for formation of Malaysia was "security". In other words, Malaya was to take over British protection from foreign invasion and the communist bogeyman. Sabah and Sarawak were British "protectorates" from 1888 and became Malayan UMNO "protectorates" from 1963. Just changing white colonial master for "brown" colonial masters. many locals were fooled by the brown colour and so-called "bumiputra" ideology. Sure they protect bumiputras rights but only to promote UMNO elites power and wealth enhancement projects.

      6. Parallel law systems are enforced with no respect for the law of the land ('Omerta' and Sharia Law ).

Malayan Constitution imposed on Sabah and Sarawak despite 18/20 Points Agreement that a new constitution was to be drawn up which should have reflected the equal partnership arrangement.

      7. Allowing marriage between adult and child.
Malaya was the sleek snake oil saleman who conned innocent Sabah and Sarawak into an enforced relationship done a gunpoint.

    2. Time and time again religion (not just Islam) has been used by a few or single individuals to command huge groups of people into doing terrible things (that they consider to be GOOD) but really is just violence, hatred, rage, revenge, paranoia, chaos, and hysteria. To get a good perspective of what I'm talking about, look at non religious countries with complete constitutional separation of religion from state. They are usually very peaceful, civilized, the people get angry if individual rights are threatened, no groups are being oppressed or can influence the government, and everyone wants to migrate there because of their free economy and rich culture.

I'm just jealous sometimes, wondering why we can't have the same here. Instead we are losing our identities, our culture, our heritage, and Sabahans especially, instead of flourishing under in Malaysia, it just gets used and merged into the Peninsular. It makes me sad to watch it change very quickly into another heavily corrupted country like Iran and it seems like there's nothing I can do to fight back, besides protesting in forums.

    3. CHEATED BY MALAYAN SNAKEHEADS!

The 20/18 Points Agreements for Sabah and Sarawak POINT 1 say Islam was not to be the "state" religion as stated in the discriminatory Malayan Constitution.

Sabah's constitution was changed without referendum to make Islam the "state religion".

Sarawak constitution only says " The Yang di-Pertuan Agong shall be the head of the religion of Islam in the State".

But all this is ignored since the Federals promote development of Islam and suppress Christians by banning import of Malay Bibles (deny Dayaks the book), banned the word "Allah" used in Borneo before Malaya was federated, condone burning of churches, punish non-Muslims students for not reciting Koran

It is the price we pay for our predecessors error in taking us into Malayan bondage. Tunku Adbul Rahman was a real snakehead who clearly declared Sabah and Sarawak were to be "states of Malaya" and we would not be re-colonised and have freedom of religion!
