Goh takes FCAS; Sari removed

KOTA KINABALU - Datuk TC Goh has officially taken over as the new President of the Federation of Chinese Association of Sabah.

Goh was appointed by the central committee of the association that unanimously resolved to replace former president Datuk Seri Panglima Sari Nuar Tan from the post on Friday (23 Aug 2013).

Sari has been on leave since June 30 last year after which Goh assumed the role as the acting president.

During its annual general meeting on June 30 this year, the association wrote to Sari to declare his status within 30 days after which the Centre Committee had been given the full authority to decide on the position of the post.

Until August 23 there had been no response to the notice given to Sari.

The move taken by the central committee was made after consultations with the Registrar of Societies, Sabah office and the Malaysian Insolvency Department.

The registrar’s office advised that it was against the law for anyone declared a bankrupt to hold any positions in a registered organisation. This is pursuant to Section 9 (a) (6) of the Societies Act 1966.

If a bankrupt was found guilty of the offence, they can be jailed up to three years or fine RM10,000 or both. The ROS had also advised the FCAS to comply with the law.

With that, Sari (right), who has been declared a bankrupt, was removed as the president as Goh assumed the post being the deputy president of the association as provided under the Rule 9.2 of the Association.

Goh’s immediate task will be to lead a delegate of 30 from the association for the Federation of Malaysian Chinese Associations annual general meeting in Ipoh, Perak from Sept 20 to 22.
