Lajim is Sabah PKR chief

KOTA KINABALU - Former Umno supreme council member Lajim Ukin is now Sabah PKR chief.

The Klias assemblyman was officially announced as the party’s Sabah chief, replacing Ahmad Thamrin Jaini, by national opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim who is also PKR advisor.

Anwar announced this while attending the Sabah PKR Hari Raya Open House in Tanjung Aru, near here. He also told the reporters that the decision was made based on strong recommendation from the state leadership and he was here to endorse it.

“I will be talking to Sabah PKR leaders about the appointment of Lajim,” said Anwar, who later held a meeting with the party leaders.

Thamrin, who was also at the function, calmly told reporters that he fully supported the decision to appoint Lajim to head the state PKR.

Asked whether Sabah Pakatan Rakyat, which won 11 state and two parliament seats, would remain intact as an opposition amid speculation that some Sabah PR leaders are planning to quit their parties, Anwar said that the people had supported them to their victory, hence it’s only right that they must now work together to address issues of the people.

“The people have shown us more than ever of their views in politics through the GE13 results, and it is our hope that ruling Barisan Nasional would adopt a more bi-partisan politics by including the opposition in discussions about the country’s issues.

“In fact, the government should invite the opposition to discuss national issues like escalating crime incidents and economy for the benefit of all Malaysians.

“Umno should not follow the old style of one-way rule it should adopt a bi-partisan politics,” he said.

Sabah PKR contributed seven state seats in the recent 13th general election.

On the call for the setting up of the Sabah PKR Advisory Council, he said that it should comprise senior leaders, including Thamrin (right).

‘Never give up’

Meanwhile, Lajim, in his speech, said that the month of Syawal is a time for the people to reflect what have been and have not been achieved.

“We must question ourselves what we have done and did not do, And when we talk about politics, it should be a solution to all the problems and lacking faced by the people.

“A good politician will improve humanity, and a good leaders will move  alongside the people, feel their sufferings, needs and wants.

“We should never think that our struggle has ended as there are a lot more ahead of us which needs to be looked into.

“Never give up. Believe the future, come what may. Be ready for tomorrow and I believe that if we all stay united, we will be able to achieve what we are fighting for,” he said.

Also present at the occasion were Chistina Liew and several other Sabah PKR leaders.
