Facebook account holder remanded over probe into 'topple govt' move

The police today remanded a Facebook account holder for five days to help in the investigation into an alleged attempt to incite people to join a gathering on Dec 31 purportedly to topple the government.

CID (Intelligence/Operations) deputy director Datuk Mazlan Mansor said the individual, who used the name Asmaelz Hadzeny II on Facebook, was remanded following an order obtained from the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court at about noon.

He said the 25-year-old man was being held at the Bukit Aman federal police headquarters.

The suspect, who had been sought by the police for about a week, was brought to Kuala Lumpur earlier today after he was arrested yesterday in Saratok, Sarawak.

The case against the suspect is being investigated under Section 124C of the Penal Code, which pertains to an attempt to commit activity detrimental to parliamentary democracy.
