‘88 Kopitiam’ sitcom suspended over links to Seputeh MP

KUALA LUMPUR - The sitcom “88 Kopitiam” over Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) has been suspended temporarily to determine the validity of the allegation that a video clip actor, who is said to have tarnished the country’s image, was involved in the programme.

Broadcasting Director-General Datuk Norhyati Ismail said RTM would call up the sitcom’s producer soon to confirm the actor’s involvement.

“This is to ensure that no party is abused or exploited by certain irresponsible individuals,” she said in a statement yesterday in response to allegations linking the sitcom’s actor with respect to the video that had tarnished the country’s image.

‘88 Kopitiam’ is aired on TV2 every Monday at 7pm and according to the statement, the programme is a comedy-style sitcom that touches on current issues affecting the Chinese community. — Bernama
