Zahid getting wrong message: Challenges Yong to slap him

Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today challenged former Sabah chief minister Yong Teck Lee to slap the former and claim a RM501 reward.

During his address to home ministry staff at Putrajaya this morning, Zahid said Yong need not pay someone else to do the deed and should be brave enough to do it himself.

"There a benevolent person who offered RM500 to the person who slaps me, anyone who does the deed will get the money.

"I am also making an offer - of RM501 - to this good person for him to personally come slap me.

"If he is brave enough to do so, why ask others to slap me?" he asked, according to Utusan Online, without naming Yong.

Last week, Yong offered the "slap bounty" when criticising Putrajaya following the latest kidnapping at a resort on Sabah's east coast.

The abduction took place on April 2 at the Singamata Reef Resort. A Chinese national and Filipino were abducted by armed men.

Police believe that the kidnappers have made contact with the Chinese national's family and are holding both hostages in Sulu, southern Philippines for ransom purposes.

Yong's "slap bounty" was a jab at Zahid for once claiming that such an offer was not illegal and does not warrant police attention.
