How many religious bigots and racists like Zuhdi are there?'

PKR director of strategy Rafizi Ramli has called on PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang to disclose how many other top PAS leadership share the “race-based and anti-democratic” views of its central committee member Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki.

This comes in the wake of several damning messages by Zuhdi, part of a conversation in a PAS central committee Whatsapp mobile messaging group which was leaked, in which he floated the suggestion of PAS teaming up with Umno in Selangor and at the expense of non-Muslims.

“(Abdul Hadi must state) How many more among the PAS central leadership have similar race-based and anti-democratic views, so that we know their stand, instead of being two-faced (bermuka-muka) and expressing treacherous proposals in closed chat groups as that done by Dr Zuhdi Marzuki?” Rafizi said in a statement today.

He also asked if Hadi and the PAS leadership will take disciplinary action against Zuhdi for coming up with a suggestion that clearly "betrays" the Pakatan Rakyat arrangement.

The Pandan MP said that the tone employed by Zuhdi in making his argument was not analytical at all, especially his opinions about establishing a Malay-Muslim hegemony.

"The sentence he used was not a sentence that discussed scenarios, but displayed his hatred and racial sentiments. Indirectly, he has expressed his agreement with the actions of the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) against the non-Muslims so far," Rafizi said.

Zuhdi, in the messages made public on social media, had said that a cooperation with Umno would enable them to establish Malay-Muslim hegemony in Selangor, and will allow PAS to "swat away" complaints from DAP and non-Muslims regarding the Allah issue and also church raids.

Zuhdi also came up with the suggestion to change electoral borders to return the political power to the Malay Muslims. These did not sit well with Rafizi.

"This is a major betrayal to the cause of fighting for free and fair elections, which was brought by the people, (electoral reforms group) Bersih, Pakatan Rakyat and even PAS," he said.

He said that regardless of Zuhdi's explanations, the nature of his statement are "undeniable".
