KOTA KINABALU: The Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) is committed to relocating the residents of water villages in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone).
Minister of Special Functions in the Sabah Chief Minister's Department Datuk Teo Chee Kang said that the move was in line with the Executive Esszone instructions, Instruction No. 1 Item 23 stated, which concerned relocating residents of water villages to a resettlement area that was especially suitable.
On the status of the implementation of the resettlement programme in Simunul, he said 2,356 households involving 13,645 residents were surveyed during the census operations carried out over three days from July 30.
"Of the total, 8,260 residents are citizens and 4,703 residents are non-citizens, while 682 residents do not have any documents," he said during the winding up of the debate on the State's 2015 Budget for his ministry at the State Assembly, here, Wednesday.
According to plans, he said a fraction of the population of Mukim Simunul would be relocated to a public housing project in in Jalan Bubul Lama, Semporna. – Bernama
