ALOR SETAR: Three policemen were slashed with a parang when they tried to pacify a mentally unsound man at Kampung Kerkau, Mukim Guar Kepayang.

In the 1pm incident on Thursday, the trio were attempting to calm down the 28-year-old suspect at a house when they were attacked.

One of the policemen sustained a deep cut to his head which required 10 stitches while his two colleagues suffered cuts on the hand and knee respectively.

Two of them have been warded at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital while the other was given outpatient treatment at the Pendang district health clinic.

The suspect was later taken to the hospital in a semi-conscious state.

Earlier, the suspect had behaved strangely by splashing water and moving most of his mother’s kitchenware into his room.

A neighbour, Annisaa Ismail, 35, said the mother then alerted the police and two patrol cars arrived at about 1pm.

“I was fishing at a stream in front of my house. Three policemen entered the house and 10 minutes later, there was a loud commotion, with them rushing out shouting undur...undur...undur (retreat).

“I saw blood oozing from one of the officer’s head,” he said.
