The 32-year-old Chan, who was shaken but unharmed was brought back to Sandakan at about 6.45am Wednesday and was given a medical check up, according to sources.
It is learned that Filipino and Malaysian mediators secured his release from the gunmen during the wee hours of the morning before bringing him back on a speedboat to Sandakan.
Chan had been reunited with his wife Chin Pek Nyen, 42.
Chan was grabbed by cross border gunmen on June 16 from his fish farm in Sapong Kunak.
Malaysian policemen Kons Zakiah Aleip, 26, who was grabbed from Pulau Mabul on July 12, is still being held by another Abu Sayyaf group and negotiations are still continuing for his release.
A security source, who spoke in the condition of anonymity, said the family of Chan paid P13 million pesos to the group of Abu Ramen under subleader Alhabsi Misaya for his release.
Abu Sayyaf captors had previously threatened to behead Chan if a RM3 million ransom is not paid up.
