IGP orders probe into tweet ridiculing MH370 accident

KUALA LUMPUR - Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has ordered a police investigation into a tweet that had allegedly ridiculed the Flight MH370 tragedy by claiming it was not an accident.

Khalid, in his Twitter account, instructed the police Cyber Investigation Response Centre (CIRC) to trace and probe the holder of the account who had responded to a Twitter post by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak expressing sympathy for the families of the passengers and crew of Flight MH370 following a special announcement by the Department of Civil Aviation yesterday.

The DCA announcement yesterday stated that the Malaysian government had declared Flight MH370 an accident and that all the 239 passengers and crew on board were presumed to have died.

Flight MH370 dropped off radar on March 8 last year as it flew from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 227 passengers and 12 crew on board.

The Boeing 777 aircraft has yet to be found, even after an exhaustive search in the southern Indian Ocean where it is believed to have gone down after veering off course. – Bernama
