Its Hudud Technical Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah said nor would the party make any changes to the draft amendments which was presented to the Pakatan Rakyat presidential council on Thursday.
“We will proceed to amend the laws based on the draft in the coming state assembly meeting,” he said after attending the PAS central committee meeting at the Menteri Besar’s official residence here yesterday.
Mohd Amar said the concerns voiced by DAP’s legal bureau chairman Gobind Singh Deo that what Kelantan PAS had presented seemed more like a new proposal rather than amendments to an existing enactment was his own opinion.
“Furthermore, what he said was totally untrue. What we presented were the amendments to the Syariah Criminal Code II 1993 with only three major amendments,” he said.
Gobind on Thursday had urged PAS to reconsider tabling the proposed amendments, saying that they looked more like a proposal for a new enactment rather than amendments to an existing one.
At another press conference here, party secretary-general Mustafa Ali said the meeting yesterday debated the concerns raised by their Pakatan allies, particularly DAP, but decided that the tabling of the amendments would proceed as planned.
“We will stick to the draft presented to the Pakatan council without any changes,” he added.
