Dewan Rakyat accepts motion of no confidence against Najib

The Dewan Rakyat has accepted the motion proposed by South Petaling Jaya (PSJ) Member of Parliament (MP) Hee Loy Sian to submit no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Datuk Sari Najib Razak.

The matter was confirmed by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman in a statement, today.

In the statement, Azalina reminded that the issue should not be politicised as the motion have been listed as the 25th order under the Dewan Rakyat’s Standing Orders and Motions.

“I want to clarify that the motion submitted by Petaling Jaya Selatan MP have been listed as the 25th order out of 28 orders within the Dewan Rakyat’s Order of Business, on Monday Oct 19, which includes Bills and Motions from the government as well as private motions from MPs from Barisan Nasional(BN) as well as the Opposition.

“The first and second motions are government motions, the third until the sixth are government bills (second reading), 7th until 28th are private motions as listed in the Order of Business.

“Furthermore, the first reading of five government bills will be made on that day.

“Thus, consideration of any proposal is subject to Standing Order 15 (1) which states that on every sitting, the government shall take precedence over other matters.

“So, I hope that the issue on the motion submitted by Petaling Jaya Selatan MP should not be politicised, particularly by stakeholders to confuse people.

She added that the Malaysian Parliament always uphold the principles of democracy that is depicted within the Constitution as well as the Dewan’s Standing Order.

“Correspondingly, I hope that MPs always act in support of the principle of accountability, especially in submitting any private motions that are not based on assumptions or speculation alone and does not violate any terms of the dewan,” she said in a statement, today.

Hee issued the motion of no confidence towards Najib due to the premier’s alleged RM2.6 billion scandal donation.

He also questioned the in the government owned investment firm, 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) following the dissolution of the Special Task Force assigned to investigate the issue.

“Because of the problems stated, the Prime Minister has damage the image of the country resulting in foreign investors losing faith towards the government causing the economy to be unstable, as well as the fall of the nation’s stock market and the Ringgit compared to the U.S Dollar.

“Thus the Malaysian people no longer have faith in the Prime Minister and taking that into account the Dewan Rakyat must take action in submitting a no-confidence vote against Prime Minister,” according to Hee’s motion to the Dewan Rakyat.

The motion is listed as the 25th agenda in the Dewan Rakyat session Third Meeting of the Third Session of the Thirteenth Parliament session, beginning tomorrow Oct 19.

Previously, PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli have also raised the issue regarding a motion of no confidence against Najib.

However, Rafizi had also noted that the proposal to conduct a vote of no confidence against the Prime Minister would be difficult, even though the Pandan lawmaker was very outspoken on the matter.
