Hadi blames DAP and PKR for Pakatan losing Perak

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said his party was not the reason why the Perak Pakatan Rakyat government fell in 2009.

Instead, the opposition coalition lost the state government due to the actions of PKR and DAP state assemblypersons “jumping ship”.

Hadi said this in response when asked to comment on DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang who said that the new opposition bloc comprising of PAS and Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia (Ikatan) was “zero plus zero equals to zero”.

“PAS is not ‘zero’ because through mutual understanding, we managed to wrest Kelantan, Kedah and Perak.

“Perak fell not because of PAS but because of DAP and PKR. PAS did not jump ship, it was people from DAP who did so,” he said as quoted by Malay daily Sinar Harian.

In the 2009 incident, three assemblypersons - two from PKR and one from DAP - quit their parties to become BN-friendly independent assemblypersons.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, then Perak Umno liaison chief, went to then Sultan Azlan Shah to inform the monarch about BN's new majority.

The sultan then sacked Pakatan menteri besar Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin and BN's new Menteri Besar Zambry Abdul Kadir was sworn in.

Meanwhile, asked to comment on the collaboration of PAS and Ikatan which critics say would only lead to an easy BN victory in the next election, Hadi denied this being the case.

“We don’t know whether we will win or lose, let the elections run first. Maybe this group (PAS) will win, we don’t know.

“BN loses or Pakatan Harapan disappears just like that, we don’t know,” he said.
