Police still investigating murder of rental car driver

KOTA KINABALU: Police are still investigating in the murder of a rental car driver whose body was found along Km 47, Kimanis-Keningau Road on Sunday.

Papar police chief DSP George Abdul Rakman said investigation were being carried out from all angles under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and to determine what actually happened.

No arrest has been made so far while George urged anyone with information to come forward immediately.

On March 27, Chan Ibba Aminulhassan, 38, from Taman Telipok Ria, Kota Kinabalu was found with multiple stab wounds inside a Perodua Axia car with registration number SAC1559C along the Kimanis-Keningau Road in the direction of Papar-Keningau.

Police said the victim was found on the driver’s seat wearing a white T-shirt and orange shorts, with the car’s key still attached to the ignition, and the victim’s wallet containing identification and cash still on him.

Prior to the discovery, the victim together with his wife were allegedly reported missing after they left home on Friday night for a short trip to a supermarket in Kolombong to buy rice and diapers, leaving their three-month-old child to the care of their auntie whom they had been staying with.

When the couple failed to return home after a few hours, relatives immediately posted the news on social media, Facebook, seeking public help.

As the post went viral on Saturday, news started to emerge with the discovery of a vehicle somewhere at Bukit Kimanis that was believed used by the couple at the time of their disappearance.

The body of the husband was found in the vehicle with multiple stab wounds, but the wife was still reported missing.

Police also believed the case to be revenge-related based on initial investigation, but did not confirm the link between the vehicle and discovery of the body to the missing couple as investigation was still ongoing.
