Deputy Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan said it would be a follow up of the first meeting held last year to get the stakeholders’ opinion on the matter.
“We will be holding another meeting this month or next month to inform the stakeholders about the current status of the issue and our future plans,” he told reporters after attending the Danajamin 100 graduation ceremony here, today.
In August last year, the ministry announced the postponement of the move to make English a mandatory passing subject in SPM, which was initially scheduled to take effect from this year.
The proposal to make English a must-pass subject in the SPM examination was made in 2013.
On the Danajamin 100 graduation ceremony, the deputy minister he said the programme organised by Danajamin Nasional Berhad had helped produce useful human capital in line with the government’s aspiration to achieve the status of fully developed and high-income nation by 2020.
Danajamin 100 is a leadership development programme, which was launched in 2014 focusing on three main elements, namely, character building, leadership and professional skills.
A total of 30 students from its PINTAR schools around Selangor and Negri Sembilan receive a certificate of appreciation and a RM1,500 contribution in the form SSPN-i after completing a three-year leadership programme. — Bernama
