Five detained in connection with video showing illegal immigrants entering Sabah
Tawau District Police chief Assistant Commissioner Fadil Marsus said all the illegals, including three women, working as plantation workers, were detained in a house in the Anderasy coconut plantation, Batu 17 near here at about 3.45pm.
When arrested, all of them failed to produce any personal identity documents and further investigation also found a 38-year-old man detained was a witness identified in the boat, in a video made viral by an Indonesian journalist relating to the allegedly easy entry of Indonesian nationals into Tawau,” he said here.
Fadil said it would record the statements of witnesses involved to assist in further investigation.
On Wednesday, Fadil said police had identified a number of individuals, including enforcement personnel to facilitate investigations into allegations of bribery to facilitate the entry of illegal immigrants, as reported in the TransMedia television programme in Indonesia.
He said police would not compromise on any violation of the integrity or misconduct involving any of its personnel. — Bernama
