Four arrested including three foreigners for terrorist activities
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the four suspects were arrested by the Special Branch Counter Terrorism Division between last Aug 2 and Sept 17.
"The first suspect, a Bangladeshi and aged 37, is an owner of a restaurant in Bukit Bintang, here, is suspected to be involved in firearms smuggling for use by international terrorists.
"The man, who is in the Interpol's red notice, was arrested on Aug 19 and has been deported to his country of origin on Sept 2," he said in a statement here, today.
The second suspect, Khalid said was a Nepalese businessmen believed to be involved in forging of travel documents for the use of international terrorists.
The 38-year-old suspect was arrested on Aug 19, and deported to his country of origin on Sept 2, he added.
Khalid said the third foreign suspect was a 26-year-old Moroccan who worked as an iron welder.
"He is a member of Daesh militant group and had been arrested by Turkish authorities while attempting to enter Syria illegally last February.
"After he was released, he sneaked into Malaysia in early May. The suspect was arrested on Aug 2 and expelled back to his country of origin on Sept 21," he added.
Khalid said the other suspect was 34-year-old local man who was employed as a personal driver to a businessman.
"The suspect has connection with Muhammad Wanndy Mohamad Jedi. He is believed to be active in promoting the Daesh militant group on his Facebook account," he said.
According to Khalid, the Bangladeshi and Nepalese suspects were arrested under Section 6 of the Immigration Act 1959/63, while the Moroccan and the local man were detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012.
