Bid for party chief Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to lead Sabah PKR is not a vote against current state chief Pajudin Nordin.
KOTA KINABALU: The unprecedented call by 18 Sabah PKR division leaders for party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to head the state line-up is not a ‘vote of no confidence’ against newly appointed state chief Pajudin Nordin but a question of what’s good for Sabah.
Speaking to newsmen here, party vice-president Fuziah Salleh said: “I don’t think it’s a vote of no confidence against Pajudin. I don’t see it as such.
“I am here on behalf of our party to see for myself and listen from all of them. Yesterday there was also a meeting with six divisional chiefs together with Pajudin, he had their support.
“Having heard everyone, I don’t think it is a vote of no confidence, but a situation where the divisional chiefs feel that this is the best for Sabah, for the sake of Sabah,” she said.
Fuziah was here earlier this week to suss out the situation in Sabah. Yesteday 18 out 25 divisions in Sabah handed a resolution to Fuziah calling for Wan Azizah to helm the state.
The 18 divisions are Kota Belud, Sepanggar, Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Putatan, Kimanis, Papar, Beaufort, Keningau, Pensiangan, Tenom, Libaran, Sandakan, Kinabatangan, Semporna, Kalabakan, Tawau and Silam.
“This request is something that we in the party’s leadership will look into very seriously. But it is the prerogative of the president to decide to accept,” said Fuziah, adding that she will present the resolution during the party’s political bureau meeting scheduled today.
Asked if the resolution allowed for someone else to be chosen to lead in Sabah, Fuziah said the demand from the divisions was specific.
“The resolution requested for the president to lead the state and that is the request I will specifically bring up to the (political) bureau,” she said.
Done in good faith
Prodded further on the rationale behind the 18 divisions’ call, she said: “I think it is very important to form a strong line-up for Sabah, and since the appointment of Pajudin it has not happen and the leaders here feel that we cannot waste anymore time.
“It is done in good faith and according to the constitution.”
She pointed out that it was a ‘very rare occasion’ indeed where the divisional chiefs are the ones proposing that the president to take the lead.
“We at the central level actually respect the autonomy of Sabah. We respect it very much and as far as possible we don’t want to interfere or be seen as interfering.
“But as a national party there is always communication, consultation and consensus building which involves both the Federal as well as the State.
“The request here is only a matter of interim to prepare the machinery for the election which is just around the corner,” she said.
Asked if the divisions had set a dateline for a decision on their request, Fuziah said it would be in the interest of the party for the political bureau to decide at the earliest possible and announce it immediately. FMT
like it or not PKR Sabah and Sarawak will soon disintegrate and close shop.Simply becos if these two state yearn for autonomy isn,t it strange to have KL based parties to continue dictating us. Kl based parties should focus their resources in west malaysia and let the local base parties take on the BN.
