CROWD….Christina Liew (5th from right) joins the various SAPP leaders on stage to wish the crowd a Happy Chinese New Year.
A WET weather coupled with drizzle did not dampened the enthusiasm of the public to attend the annual Chinese New Year celebrations organized by the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Luyang, at the open-air vicinity of Foh Sang shops, in Luyang here on Saturday night.
Though the size of the crowd was visibly lesser as compared to previous year, it was still able to gather an estimated of over 1,000 spectators, a majority of who were equipped with umbrellas; they remained until the curtains were down.
Both the organizer and the spectators were obviously moved by the mettle showed by the various performers to perform on stage, in a challenging condition.
This was especially true for the internationally-acclaimed SJK (C) Yick Nam dragon and lion dance troupe, when they performed their dare-devil stunts on the metal poles, which mesmerized the crowd.
Among the local talents performing at the occasion included up-and-coming Sabah Hakka song writer cum singer, Tu Tian Loong who succeeded in kicking up a storm, so to speak, with rendition of his Hakka Chinese New Year songs, besides his own new songs.
The said event was jointly officiated by SAPP supreme councilors led by its Wanita Chief, Melanie Chia who is also the Luyang state assemblywoman.
Also in attendance were, Datin Stella Yong, the wife to SAPP President Datuk Yong Teck Lee, its deputy presidents Datuk Liew Teck Chan and Amde Sidik, its vice presidents Don Chin, Dullie Marie, Ghafar Ismail, its Secretary-general Datuk Richard Yong, and Information Chief Chong Pit Fah, and former state Finance Minister, Datuk Mohd Noor Mansoor.
Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sabah deputy chairperson, Christina Liew surprised many with her presence there as a guest, for the first time. She was warmly treated by the various SAPP leaders and was even invited on stage to join them in extending their warm Chinese New Year greetings to the crowd. (Source sabahkini.net)
