All nice things have been said about the RM4.6million SAMUR (Sabah Ammonia Urea) plant project in Sipitang, which its ground breaking was done by the Prime Minister last month (13/02/2012)
The project is said to be good for Sipitang people.
According to BERNAMA report, SAMUR once fully operational is expected to provide 400 jobs.
It would create economic impact to Sipitang such as agriculture, hotel and catering, plant maintenance and transportations and therefore provide employment for Sipitang community, said General Manager of PETRONAS Regional Office, Labuan, Joseph Podtung
Podtung didn’t elaborate how and what extent of activities that would impact on the agriculture, what will transpire and the like.
My question, why is it a project with such magnitude RM4.6 billion could only provide 400 jobs?
I can only imagine this is very specialised industry in nature, and therefore only need specialised workers, if that is the case, I think Sipitang people isn’t the ultimate beneficiary.
Next how much influence are our YBs in ensuring that people of Sipitang be accommodated into this project, which I’m pretty sure once this project is fully operational, they couldn’t even come nearer to the premises.
We are yet to get the information of the other side of the story of ammonia urea if any. So far we only knew from reading from other countries that have experienced with ammonia urea, a colourless gas with pungent odour, both caustic and hazardous to health. This could be an issue in the future, which it should be explained to people of today.
Hj Amde Sidik is Deputy President of Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP)
Samur=Lynas=Rubbish hazarous to environment and living beings!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat's SAPP next move about it?
Most jobs will eventually be given to Malayans and foreigners.
DeleteIm sad that some people just anti development or what if they have contrat wth them, im sure they will not comment. Its human nature i suppose.Fikiran pendek.

DeleteChange the government!
ReplyDeleteBefore that, change the vote first. hahhaha
IC palsu?? cuma bila kau keluar saja baru mau jadi hero.. Perkara ni bukan berlaku bila kamu keluar BN.
masa sapp dalam BN dia diam saja, sekarang sudah tiada kuasa semua dia mau bantah.
DeleteWhen the Samur project is being developed in Sipitang, there will be more efforts to developed the surrounding areas such as better roads, better facilities, better broadband coverage et cetera, et cetera in order for the Samur project to work out, the people would directly and indirectly benefit from the developments there as well. Not to mention the job opportunities before, during and after the Samur plant was set up and the economic benefits to Sabah due to the production and sales of fertilizer.
DeleteSAPP had their chance during their term as the Sabah government, YTL will not get the people's support the second time roung, Batu Sapi election should be a preview of what is going to happen in the next general election.
DeleteBatu Sapi election is a tester for SAPP, we can see from what had happen, BN's money machinery at its best coupled with Pakatan's backstabbing tactics. BN had won not becoz they win the local people's heart, it is becoz of the Project IC voters that they won.
DeleteAs to PKR, there is nothing to celebrate about being the number two, that is becoz of your attack on SAPP rather than the BN, just to get to number 2...what is the point???
SAPP fought against two giants, the whole BN machinery and the whole Pakatan machinery...all from the peninsular, with lots of money until the Sandakan banks went dry.
Is this what you call victory???? Everything sucks here!
We should support the project which I feel somehow will provide opportunites for the people there.
ReplyDeleteThe local people may not have the specialise skill ,however, I think the factory does need other workers. Also it will be good for the shopkeepers and the local markets...
Think positive ...
DeleteThe Sabah Malay Chamber of Commerce of Malaysia (DPMM) sees the RM600 million worth of contracts, to be awarded to local companies in the RM4.6 billion Sabah Ammonia-Urea (Samur) plant project in Sipitang, as a windfall for Sabah people, particularly local contractors and companies.
ReplyDeleteDPMM president Datuk Awang Buhtamam Ag Mahmun said this was an encouraging sign for local contractors including Sabah DPMM members.
Delete"We believe this project, owned by Petronas Chemicals (PCG) Group Bhd, will certainly provide great opportunities for existing and emerging contractors and suppliers who are keen to participate."
DeleteHe added that qualified local contractors from all chambers of commerce in Sabah stand to benefit from this project, RM600 million is a huge amount, and of course we thank Petronas for understanding our sentiments in terms of business opportunities.
DeleteThe new fertiliser complex will have a urea production capacity of around 1.2 million tons a year, making it Southeast Asia''s largest single-train granular urea production facility.
DeleteConstruction is expected to start in the second quarter of 2012, with commissioning scheduled for 2015.
DeletePCG already operates two urea plants in Bintulu and Gurun, with annual capacity of 750,000 million tons and 683,000 million tons respectively.
DeleteThe Samur project is expected to increase PCG''s total urea production capacity to 2.6 million tons a year.
DeleteAwang Buhtaman said employment opportunies were also expected to arise in tandem with the growth of investment by Petronas in the oil and gas industry, particularly in the Samur project.
DeleteChief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman had recentlty said that the Samur project was expected to create at least 400 jobs for the locals once it was fully operational.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteMusa was also quoted as saying that the newly-appointed consortium's associate for the Samur project, Sabah Energy Corporation, would distribute the projects to qualified Sabahan companies or contractors, adding that "the participation of locals in this effort shows that our call has been answered and signifies Petronas' earnestness in giving Malaysians in Sabah opportunities to be players in the oil and gas business."
Jadi pembangkang bukan pasal pertahankan hak rakyat tapi agenda persendirian...
ReplyDeleteKalau kau jadi Boss,.. you have never proven that you are a capable of good governance.. you could be worst...
DeleteIts increase state revenue. Good luck.
ReplyDeletePetronas projects will cost billions and will not only boost Sabah's oil and gas industry but also generate employment and spin-off opportunities for the rakyat.
ReplyDeletePetronas' mega projects in Sabah are not just about providing opportunities but also require the readiness of the local industry to fully grab them.
Ammonia can also be used for various end applications such as textiles, melamine and adhesives, creating opportunities for enterprising Sabahans to venture into these businesses.
ReplyDeleteThis in turn will create more jobs and spur greater economic activity.
ReplyDeleteWell this is indeed a good news to everyone of us, especially the Sabahans.
ReplyDeleteHopefully its really can help to develop industry in Sabah.
ReplyDeleteWe should support this effort as it is for our own good.
ReplyDeleteMore oppotunity will provide for this project. The Samur Project is expected to require some 3,000 to 4,500 workers particularly at the peak of the construction of the complex.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, the Prime Minister also called on the people of Sabah not to miss out on the spillover opportunities that the project will offer. “We have no plans to turn this world-scale factory an “island” away from the local people.
Good news for Sabahan that the SAMUR project. RM4.5 billion Ammonia Urea Sabah (SAMUR) Petronas project here as signifying a new era for Sabah and its people.
ReplyDelete“The Samur Project is not an ordinary project. It is a world scale project that will be built here in Sipitang.
ReplyDeleteactually, u need vendor to maintain the plant. u'll have the electrical vendor, mechanical vendor, civil vendor, etc. this vendor this require to base their office near the plant. their workers shud include the local there.
ReplyDeletethis is where the local can enjoy the benefit of the plant. pay sumtime around rm6/hour. if expert, example wireman, rm10/hour (lowest). so usually, most of the maintenance work will be outsource. only the process work (400+ workers) need to operate the plant.
so, please, do think first. dun try to 'laga' or provoke others saying that the people there would not benefit anything. trust me, people who live near the area will get the benefit most. only after they couldn't find someone expert enough to handle certain job, then they will call outsiders to do the job.
in this type of plant, fast response is crucial. thanks
some of the clerk at samur with STPM qualification freshy from school with 6 month experience working as a clerk at supermarket ( from Sipitang) still cant make different between access and assist.. example conversation:
ReplyDeleteClerk with STPM : U akses siapa?...
Clerk with Diploma . ..I assist my manager.... ( ohh the english!!!...)
better read more than talking more but nothing..
