STAR explains why ‘outdated’ Sabah for Sabahans concept is rousing support

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah for Sabahans is not the slogan of the Borneo Alliance, but “rights and autonomy of Sabah and Sarawak” is, say the state Reform Party (STAR).

“But if the BN leaders feel this is the slogan of the Borneo Alliance, so be it,” said STAR Sabah’s Deputy Chairman, Daniel John Jambun in a statement here. He was responding to the speech in Parliament  on wednesday by Kota Belud MP, Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan that the slogan “Sabah for Sabahans” being played up by the opposition “to confuse the people” is outdated while it is detrimental to national integration.

“If it is outdated, how come the people are rising up by the thousands to come forward and support this new idea?” asked Jambun. “This is what the people want, and they are supporting us because they have realized the BN is not giving it to them!”

Jambun, who is also the Advisor for the UKI-Based Human Rights Foundation Malaysia, said it is now general knowledge, even among the illiterate villagers in the Interior, that the BN/Umno government have come to Sabah to colonize and to take away a lot more than what it gives.

“And that is why they are finding new hope with the Borneo Alliance,” he said. “If Rahman feels this is bad for national integration, I would like to ask him what had BN done for integration between Sabahans and Peninsular Malaysians? What is being done is the other way round. Umno is causing disunity by promoting Malay supremacy through such NGOs as Perkasa and Jati, and when Ibrahim Ali attacks non-Malays and non-Muslims, Umno leaders don’t do anything to shut him up. Because of this 1Malaysia is meaningless.”

“What national integration is Rahman talking about if after 48 years of independence we are insulted by questions like ‘Bila sampai Malaysia’ when we land in KL?” he added. “What BN wants is not national integration but national hegemony, to control Sabah and Sarawak and to take our revenues, to ensure we become subservient to KL.”

And this, Jambun said, is the reason Sabahans have become so parochial. “We don’t want to isolate ourselves from the rest of Malaysians as Rahman suggested, but we just want to have the same rights for development and economic opportunity as those in the Peninsular,” he said. “We also want bigger shares of our own revenues so we don’t have to beg from KL. Is this too much to ask?”

  1. WHY NOT "SABAH FOR SABAHANS"?

Isn't Sabah the country and motherland of the Sabahans now under the colonial thumb of UMNO?

The land that the Kinabalu guerillas laid down their lives for those who live today?

The land of all those born and bred in Sabah?

What more needs be said other than "Sabah for Sabahans"?

This describes exactly what we want!

Freedom and independence from Malayan colonialism!

The UMNO BN colonialists and their local turncoat puppets can say what they like.

Sabah for Sabahans has been revived because we now all know we got conned into a fake "independence in Malaysia" whereby the Malayans have looted our resources and grabbed our land and left us the poorest in "Malaysia"!

When Sabah achieves full national independence, the local UMNO balls carriers go and live in Malaya and good riddance to them!

    GANYANG MALAYSIA!

  2. Sabah in a way has always been for sabahan as all our CM and DCM downward were sabahan. If they have the political guts like onced demonstrated by Pairin, Sabah would have not as of today. But sadly sabahan have been betrayed by our own leader for power n money!! I don't see how current crop of sabahan opposition leaders are different from the past n current. JK has shown he lacked team spirit n leadership. YONG has been CM once but did not fought for what he is whinning about now. For me STAR N SAPP are hypocrite n selfish bunch of local politician. Wise up their reluctance to work with PR are motivated by greed. All they can bring out are same shit of old issues that has been reused many times. It shows how insincere n shallow they are.

    1. If only the past leaders made wise decisions and sincere to serve the rakyat, things will be much better. But some people are so "weak" when it comes to money. Therefore, they were busy enriching themselves and forgot the real struggles.

  4. Only traitors, proxies and stooges will support PR. Its like jumping out from the frying pan only to land on the fire. We are suppose to chase out all the Malaya parties that have been colonising and sucking our resources for 48 damn years and now here another stooges harping on supporting PR. Nobody will help the Sabahan and the Sarawakian except themselves. For as long as the Bornean continues to be colonise by Malaya the posibility of prospering in tandem with Singapore and Brunei is not only ZERO but soon to be taken over by the PTI.

  5. It has been a sad situation ever since Sabah come under the regime of UMNO/BN and being colonized by Malaya where freedom and development of the State is not ours. This has been further compounded by those untrustworthy local leaders under BN who betray all Sabahans after they were elected to lead and to protect State rights but due to greed, they surrender all State rights and become subservient to UMNO and Malayan parties. It is sad to see in the past decades that those local leaders under BN have no right to raise any issues to defend Sabah but have to wait for KL to give the signal to talk for fear that they might make their 'master' in KL unhappy. They become dumb whenever issues on Sabah rights were raised and will not be able to bring development to Sabah. What we get so far is only a small crunch drop under the table for these BN local leaders to beg for it. It is a shame to Sabahans for these untrustworthy BN leaders to continue to rule the State.

AnonymousMar 16, 2012 01:00 AM must be blind and still in a dream land of Malaya to depend on party from Malaya to fight for our rights and autonomy.
We have had enough of parties from Malaya for the past decades. These parties are only destroying our local culture, traditions and taking control of all our natural resources. PR and any other Malayan parties are no different to UMNO in Sabah.Their ultimately aim is to take control of all our natural resources, to divide and rule and use religion negatively to divide the people.

AnonymousMar 16, 2012 01:00 AM must also realize that politic in Malaya is based on race and religion that lead to non transparency, corruptions, divide and rule, cronyism and nepotism. It is better for Sabah to stay out of this Malayan politic and let the Malayans to sort out by themselves. If you are a true Sabahan, we should know by now that we can not depend on Malayan parties to defend our rights,to develop the State and to bring prosperity to all Sabahans.

I believe that the present opposition parties SAPP and STAR are the solution for the future of Sabah and Sabahans.

Some people come forward only to hear the talk or to observe the situation.

Manakala SAPP,STAR dan USNO adalah parti bebas Borneo yang betul2 jaga kepentingan orang Sabah dan Sarawak.
