Tawau villages urges PWD to replace wooden bridge

TAWAU - Residents of Kg. Serudung Baru here have raised concerns over the safety of an old wooden bridge here and urged the Public Works Department (PWD) to replace it.

Tawau MP Datuk Chua Soon Bui said the department took action in repairing the bridge after resident voiced their dissatisfaction through the local media recently.

Unfortunately, she said, the village which has a total of 700 houses found out that PWD only repaired the holes and not what the residents had hoped for.

In fact, she said, PWD just left some wood used for the repair at the area and did not bother cleaning it.

"What the villager want is for the wooden bridge to be replace and not just repaired because it has gone under repair countless times using funds raised by the people themselves," she said.

She said the villagers' request is relevant because the facility connects them to the other areas and students as well as vehicles use the bridge everyday.
