Reveal sources of RM40mil 'contribution', gov't told

Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M) is calling for authorities to reveal the sources of the RM40 million "political contribution" to Sabah Umno, that a state businessman was caught trying to smuggle into the country from Hong Kong.

Referring to Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz's parliamentary written reply to Batu MP Tian Chua, its secretary-general Josie M Fernandez said TI-M was “appalled” that Nazri has stated “no elements of corruption was proven” in the case.

"Nazri (left) has stated that the funds were contributions to the Sabah Umno liaison body.

"He further stated that the MACC has concluded that ‘no element of corruption was proven’ in the case.

"However, the MACC must investigate if corruption was a factor in the political contribution of RM40 million,” she said in a statement.

Nazri’s written response, she pointed out, raises many serious questions on the transparency and accountability of party finances.

She added that TI-M has been urging the Malaysian government to regulate political financing and to fully disclose financing of politics in the country, even submitting a memorandum on reforming political financing to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak last year.

Mother of corruption

"TI-M calls for the full disclosure of the sources of the RM40 million as a 'political contribution' to Sabah Umno.

"Absolute transparency is essential in political contributions to rule out the possibility of influence peddling in the political process.

"Money politics contributes to the cancer of corruption.

"Political corruption is the mother of all corruption," Fernandez (right) said.

On Aug 14, 2008, businessman Michael Chia was caught in Hong Kong with Singapore currency amounting to RM40 million and was charged with money laundering and trafficking by the Hong Kong Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC).

The money was reportedly earmarked for Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman and were part of funds being deposited into a Swiss bank account containing US$30 million allegedly being held in trust for Musa by a lawyer.

These claims were followed by allegations by whistleblower website Sarawak Report that linked the monies to timber kickbacks for the chief minister for approving timber licences. The allegations were later denied by Musa.

However, in his written reply yesterday, Nazri said the money was “not for the personal use of the chief minister” but was meant for the Sabah Umno liaison body and that MACC had found “no element of corruption”, which he claimed led the ICAC to take no further action in the case.

  37. Pakatan Rakyat is destroying themselves (CORRUPTION)

It was also first time in history where a list of Pakatan Rakyat leaders was involved in corruption.

Selangor sand scandal. Can you imagine that the price of sand in Selangor is way more expensive than Singapore ?

Ngo Kor Ming wife corruption scandal.

Tunku Abdul Aziz RM 50 000 bribe scandal.

    Teresa Kok corruption .

    Ronnie Liu corruption.

Au Yong Hian Wah corruption in Teoh Beng Hock case.

And the list just goes on and on and it was only the 4th year of them in power. What will happen if the Rakyat gave them the mandate to rule in PR 13?

They are already exactly as worst as BN and if they are the same then why on earth do we still need to vote for the same type of leadership?

Kicking out a ghost to put a devil into power?

If their own member also they do not allow them express their rights and freedom then makes you think that when the Rakyat put them into power they will give such freedom to the Rakyat ?

PKR internal election had the worst fight ever since the party is form. More than 160 official complaints regarding their internal election fraud and flaws. Yet they are shouting for BERSIH? In the first place their own election system is also extremely dirty and full with manipulation.

Klang 26 years strong DAP Loyal Veteran Leader was sacked just because he belief in Transparency and reported internal scandal to the press?

Tunku Abdul Aziz a man of integrity senator position was at risk just because his personally do not agree with BERSIH 3.0 that will harm the public?

    Restriction of Freedom in Media

Lim Guan Eng had threaten 86 Chinese in Penang that he will stop giving funding to them if any of those school still subscribe to Utusan Malaysia and Berita Harian.

Lately he even ban Utusan Malaysia from covering Penang Government news in Penang.

Anwar Ibrahim during a press conference after BERSIH 3.0 chased out an ordinary citizen that question his regarding Anwar action to risk normal citizen life during the rally.

What happen if he really became our Prime Minister? Even now as an opposition leader also a normal citizen was being drag out during Q and A session then when he came into power Rakyat may not even have the chance to question him.

    Anwar Ibrahim scandal.

It only take certain brave politician who are willing to admit and apologize over their scandal.

  41. Pakatan Rakyat is destroying themselves (Differences in Ideology)

How can they be an effective administrative if they do not share the common ideology?

Is like having a pair of husband and wife that love each other but one wanted to have a children and on do not want to have it.

How would such partnership survive in the long run?

PAS had been very committed to their Hudud cause and DAP is less brave to openly strongly object it as strong as they use to be in the past.

Anwar may seem to be a good bridge at the moment but how long this bridge will last ?

What next after Anwar Ibrahim ?

Even that Karpal Singh already blasted Anwar that he is not fit to be the leader of Pakatan Rakyat and had causes enough trouble to them.

See. Even now this bridge is already a problem and liability to Pakatan Rakyat.
