RCI revelations should prompt IGP to initiate probe

The police can open investigation papers in the wake of claims that the late Megat Junid Megat Ayob and Abdul Aziz Shamsuddin were involved in Ops Durian Buruk, as revealed to the royal commission of inquiry (RCI) on immigrants in Sabah yesterday.

Former Kuala Lumpur CID chief Mat Zain Ibrahim said the police need not wait for the RCI to conclude to initiate investigations. The probe could begin now, he said.

Citing the revelations in the RCI as betrayal and acts of treason of the highest order, Mat Zain said the inspector-general of police must commence full-scale investigations immediately.

"Now that former Sabah National Registration Department director, Ramli Kamaruddin and former Tamparuli NRD chief Yakup Damsah have implicated the late Megat Junid (left) and Abdul Aziz, both known as Dr Mahathir Mohamad's right-hand men then, and also the revelation of Ops Durian Buruk between 1992-1995 by Mohd Nasir Sugip, police must commence full scale investigations.

'The police need not wait for the RCI to be over or for the RCI report to be completed. The police need not wait for anyone to lodge a police report before making their move. The police can and must act on their own motion. The revelations made are too devastating to stomach.

"These are cheating, betrayal and acts of treason of the highest order that have threatened national security and our sovereignty," Mat Zain said.

He noted that in June 2000, when he was heading the KL CID, the police initiated investigations against Mahathir immediately after Anwar Ibrahim lodged a report on the day the former director-general of the Anti-Corruption Agency, Shafee Yahaya, gave his evidence during a civil trial, citing the then PM for abuse of power for closing its probe on former Economic Planning Unit director-general Ali Abul Hassan.

"What I intend to emphasise here is that police investigations commenced immediately in that instance, without having to wait for the trial to be over or for a decision to be made by the court," Mat Zain said.

"Similarly, in the revelations made during the current Sabah RCI, the IGP need not wait for any clearance from anybody to investigate the matter.

"In fact, he should have simultaneously announced what the police intend to do once the information was made public," he added.

Sitting EC deputy chairperson involved?

Mat Zain also raised the possibility of current Election Commission deputy chairperson Wan Ahmad Wan Omar, (right) also being involved in the Ops Durian Buruk in 1992-1995.

"Megat Junid is dead and can tell no tales. Abdul Aziz has denied remembering anything about this affair. But Wan Ahmad was the secretary (security/political) division of the Prime Minister's Department at the height of the Sabah IC issue."

He said immediately after that posting, Wan Ahmad was promoted and made the EC secretary from 1998 to 2004, and after that he has been serving as deputy EC chief.

Mat Zain said Wan Ahmad should come clean on this issue, especialli since he has been vocal in defending the EC.

"Is he actually defending himself from the things that I believe he may have been involved in, many many years ago and still very active in them until today... I can safely say that Wan Ahmad is the man to elaborate on the IC-for-votes issue," he added.

Malaysiakini has attempted to call and has sent a text message to Wan Ahmad to get his response over the revelation made by Mat Zain, and is awaiting his reply.

  1. Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad did not deny that Government officials gave foreigners in Sabah identity cards before the 1994 state elections.

    1. However, he said that these cards were handed out legally, adding that he did not know if former Deputy Home Affairs Minister Tan Sri Megat Junid Megat Ayub had ordered them to be issued on purpose ahead of state elections.

    6. This was supposedly done two weeks before the 1994 state elections which Parti Bersatu Sabah barely won with 25 out of 48 state assembly seats.

    10. NOT ALL MALAYS AGREE WITH UMNO MASS TRANSMIGRATION AGENDA

Mat Zain is certainly courageous in commenting on “IC PROJEK” that the RCI "revelations made are too devastating to stomach.

"These are cheating, betrayal and acts of treason of the highest order that have threatened national security and our sovereignty,"

This is said by one true Malayan patriot who can no longer stomach UMNO's anti-Malay and anti-national policies! This statement should be on all news headlines and banners!

Why would he not stomach all UMNO's shenanigans?

The UMNO mass transmigration import of Indonesians and others to stack up its electoral base is part of the UMNO declared agenda to create a "Melayu Raya". They have used race and religion to create a poisonous atmosphere to divide the people's unity and to maintain its power.

But mass transmigration has many down sides for every citizen for the following reasons:

      1. Mat Zain's remarks hit the target on the bullseye to say that IC Projek is a betrayal of the national interest. UMNO as the party in government must be the guardian of the national borders and sovereignty and to keep “invaders” out not let them in.

Obviously the conniving Mahathir must be in a cold sweat as he was the boss of those accused of complicity in the acts of national betrayal. So Mahathir (as usual) shifts the blame to someone like the late Tunku, knowing he is not around to kick back. Such is the last resort of a scoundrel.

Mahathir should be charged for high treason and sentenced to the maximum penalty!

      2. The instant foreign voters are a form of disenfranchisement of not just Malays themselves but all other citizens who no longer wish to vote for UMNO. In doing so UMNO is displacing legitimate voters by outnumbering them with instant voters. This is illegal and unconstitutional.

      3. These instant citizens also compete for on jobs, and puts a tremendous stress on housing, education health services and other social and public service. They have a far greater need and demand for such services as most of them are poverty stricken people seeking economic refuge in the 3 countries in Malaysia. Illegals have been unfortunately exploited by UMNO as handy pawns to win elections and drawn the outrage of real Sabahans.

      4. These instant voters could be a threat to national security in many ways. It is well known that UMNO has tolerated Southern Philippines insurgents with terrorists amongst them to move in and out of Sabah freely and use its long coast as a safe haven. Illegals can be turned in supporters for these groups and gain a voice in Sabah and Malayan politics (millions more of them in Malaya?).

Further the great number of Indonesians inside our territory is not a comforting thought as relations between Malaysia and Indonesia can very volatile since the Konfrontasi Days when the later wanted to Ganyang Malaysia because it was a neo-colonial scheme.

The concern is what if one day there is another blow up and the instant Indonesian Malaysian citizens become a handy internal fifth column? They could have great influence on the course of events.

This again is to be seen as truly an act of national betrayal by UMNO because of its policies of convenience for itself but a great inconvenience to the 3 countries in Malaysia.

It is ironic that in an apartheid environment of racial discrimination created by UMNO even Malays become UMNO's victims.
