KUALA LUMPUR: The Election Commission (EC) cannot guarantee whether someone who registers as a voter today can still vote in the upcoming 13th general election.
EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof told Astro AWANI today that Malaysians can register as a voter anytime.
"Every day you can register, but whether you can vote in this election is another issue.
"For those who register today, their names will only be gazetted in May, so whether you get to vote or not, I can't give any guarantees," said Abdul Aziz.
Meanwhile, the nomination and polling date of the 13th general election will only be known after the Election Commission holds a special meeting which will decide on the matter.
Abdul Aziz that the election authority has not received the official letters from the speakers of the Dewan Rakyat and state assemblies.
"We don't know yet (when the election dates will be) . The EC has not received the official letters... we will only hold a special meeting to decide on the important date," said Abdul Aziz.
However, Abdul Aziz said that the general election, for both parliament and state seats, will be held simultaneously.
