GE13: Good political leaders must be brave - SAPP

KOTA KINABALU - Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) president Datuk Seri Panglima Yong Teck Lee said good political leaders must be brave enough to expose lies to the people so that the people would know the truth.

“Any politician who bends to win by using smear campaigns, character assassinations and deceptions and lies will be bad politicians who will bully and cheat the people,” he added.

Yong pointed out that Sabah’s political culture used to be pure and civilized but this has changed when Malayan parties entered Sabah and brought with them the crooked political practices such as vicious lies, rumors, and racial tension.

He accused BN/UMNO leaders of using the Sulu intrusion incident to defame and to blame the opposition by announcing that the authorities had identified three opposition leaders, one of whom is alleged to be from Sabah.

He calls on the Defense Minister not to mislead the people by making this confusing announcement to gain political mileage in the coming election.

Yong said he would not be cowed by any threats as the struggle for Sabah autonomy is the struggle for the people of Sabah.

“SAPP is fighting for the rights of every Sabahan,” he added.

Yong claimed that someone had lodged a police report linking him to the Sulu intrusion incident and disclosed that on April 8, he was summoned to meet a senior Special Branch officer from Bukit Aman as a result of the report where he denied involvement in the intrusion or any meeting with any family members of the Sulu Sultan in or outside Sabah.

Yong said he might be framed for fighting for the rights of Sabah when exposing the truth of the Double Six tragedy and reiterated that he would not back off from any threats but would continue to expose the lies and political tricks for the benefits of the people.
