Attacks against Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim that he possessed millions of ringgit stashed in foreign accounts have gone unabated as renewed allegations have emerged in his own constituency of Permatang Pauh.
According to Utusan Malaysia today, thousands of copies of an eight-page letter, allegedly containing bank account numbers belonging to Anwar, were distributed across Permatang Pauh.
NONEThe mystery letter, entitled ‘Bankleaks Anwar/Karpal', is supposedly on business dealings between Anwar and DAP chairperson Karpal Singh (left).
Former BN Permatang Pauh candidate Mazlan Ismail was quoted by the Umno-owned daily as saying that he had received some 6,000 reports concerning the letter and asked the two opposition leaders to explain themselves.
"There are even unknown individuals that called to ask if I have received the report. Perhaps they do not have other channels to get an explanation," he was quoted as saying.
Utusan Malaysia claimed that the letter was written by a former staff of Karpal but did not name the person.
Before this, Simpang Renggam MP Liang Teck Meng had in Parliament accused Anwar of having RM332 million in some 20 offshore accounts, citing a Wikileaks report.
Pakatan Rakayt MPs pointed out that the alleged report did not exist and moved a motion to refer Liang to the committee of rights and privileges.
However, Liang escaped censure as BN's majority surpassed that of the opposition.
