Businessman shot dead in Beverly Hills (updated)

KOTA KINABALU - A 44-year-old businessman was killed in a drive-by shooting as he walked out of an Indian Muslim restaurant at the Beverly Hills commercial complex in Penampang, Kota Kinabalu last night.

The man was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by a police patrol car after the 10.15pm shooting, but he was pronounced dead, The Star news portal reported today.

Police have yet to disclose the identity of the  businessman who, they say, had been having drinks with a few friends at the shop.

When he left, an unidentified man in a waiting car shot him in the abdomen and immediately sped off.

Police in a patrol car nearby heard the gunshot, were quickly at the scene, and rushed the victim to hospital.

Police immediately set up road blocks across the city in a bid to capture the assailant. It is understood that police are also recording the statements of the friends of the businessman, according to the news portal. -TMI

KOTA. KINABALU: A 44-year-old (Sarawakian) businessman was gunned down in front of a shop in the Beverly Hills, Penampang at about 10.40pm last night.

Tiong Choon Kwong from Kuching was shot from a close range when he stepped out of a coffeeshop to answer a call on his mobile phone.

Several men in a Kancil car stopped in front of the shops and fired a shot which hit him on his chest.

The man died at the hospital at about 12.15am this morning, said Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib at the Kepayan police headquarters.

"We will question some witnesses to assist our investigations for the case," he said adding that the case has been classified as murder.
