Dog Murder Video Teenage Culprit Tracked Down

TWO days ago, Malaysians expressed their shock and outrage over a viral video which showed a teenage boy torturing and killing a puppy.

Many concerned netizens including representatives of animal rights groups launched an online effort to identify the young boy pictured in the video.

Yesterday, through the efforts of the Malaysia Independent Animal Rescue volunteers, who not only went to great lengths to identify the culprit, they managed to locate the 15 year-old boy's address leading to his arrest early today.

Malaysia Independent Animal Rescue which published the extensive operations involved in the MIAR website, recounted how the group of volunteers first obtained the boy's address and his aunt's mobile and lodged a report at the USJ police station. They were then informed the address was located in a 'black' area, implying the presence of gang activity, so the special branch had to be called in for assistance.

Early this morning, the animal NGO group received a call from the Jempol police station that the culprit had already been arrested and charged. According to MIAR, as a minor, the teenage boy will probably only be fined when his case is mentioned in court in 14 days but added they hoped he will also be asked to carry out community service in an MIAR shelter.

Upon the culprit's identification, according to the MIAR site, details have also emerged that the boy came from a broken home where his mother had abandoned him and left him at the mercy of a stepmother who abused him and he was subsequently sent to live with his aunt in Bahau.

Many netizens expressed their hope on the MIAR site that the boy will receive proper rehabilitation to understand that what he did was wrong as being arrested does not actually help the boy realize the error of his actions.
