Bullying case: pupils picked up

ALOR SETAR - The six Year Six pupils who allegedly bullied their classmate at a primary school here have been picked up by the police.

Kedah police chief Senior Deputy Commissioner of Police Datuk Zamri Yahya said four police reports had been lodged after the video footage of the incident went viral on Facebook and YouTube.

“The pupils involved in the incident know each other. Preliminary investigations showed that it happened in September last year and all of them had just finished their UPSR (Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah) examination,” he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.

“The victim did not sustain any injury.

“All six have been released on police bail after their statements were recorded,” he said.

In the video clip, the boy was in tears as his schoolmates kicked, hit and placed a dustbin over his head. A broom was also used to taunt the crying victim.

Alor Setar MIC division Youth chief W. Thiruchandru said the victim’s family, who lives at a village house near the school, had met the headmaster and decided not to take any legal action against the pupils involved.

“They only want the police to do something so that the incident will not be repeated,” he said.

Thiruchandru said the boy would be going to a religious school in Perlis when school resumes next week.
