Manhunt for suspect in Lahad Datu murder

LAHAD DATU - Police are looking for a 42-year-old man believed to be involved in the murder of a 23-year-old man at Kampung Bikang here on Thursday.

District police chief ACP Hamzah Ahmad yesterday said the deceased was identified as Omar Bin Abdul Rakman from Kampung Tanjong Kapur, Kudat.

Hamzah said police received a tip from members of the public at 11.30am, saying that they found a body at the mosque of Kampung Bikang.

A witness, who was sleeping at the mosque, was awakened about 10am by a loud sound, which prompted him to go out and saw a man’s body lying on the floor, Hamzah said.

The witness also saw a man, believed to be the suspect, leaving the mosque.

“The suspect later fled the scene in a Proton Saga Aeroback,” he said, adding that the victim died from stab wound on his chest, believed caused by a small and sharp weapon.

Hamzah said the suspect was identified as Ben Bin Abdulrasid whose last known address was at Kampung Sarip, Lahad Datu.

He said that those who have any information about the incident or suspect’s whereabouts should contact the police at 089-881255 or investigation officer Inspector Mohamad Soffi at 0138339230.

Hamzah added that the case would be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
