The sources however did not reveal if police had caught the key suspects in the shooting which injured the two policemen.
According to the sources, the two were detained to assist in investigations that are currently ongoing.
Both policemen - 46-year old Sjn Mejar Sabturani Maul and 24-year old Kons Tong Wilson - are currently being treated for gunshot wounds at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital here.
Sabturani and Tong were wounded in the head, nose and body after being hit by pellets from a single shot fired by an unknown sniper.

Sabah police commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman late Thursday said that they believed a gunman hiding in the hill near the operations area had fired a shot from a homemade shotgun.
Both Sabturani and Tong, who were part of a team from the state police anti-narcotics unit led by Insp Siri Piuh were injured after they approached two people who were behaving suspiciously.
The two individuals then tried to run away, and Sabturani and Tong managed to overpower one of the suspects when the shot was fired.
Two plastic packets that are suspected to contain syabu were recovered from the man, who claimed to be an ethnic Bajau named "Malik Bin Hasdari'",
However, no identification documents were found on the man.

Two cops shot by suspects
KOTA KINABALU - Two narcotics police personnel were injured when two drug suspects allegedly shot at them during an operation along Jalan Sepanggar-Salut, near the Salut Commercial Centre roundabout in Sepanggar yesterday.
Sergeant-major Sabturani Maul and constable Tong Wilson, in their 30s and 20s respectively, were admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH 2), where they were reported to be in stable condition, Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said.
He said both Sabturani and Tong were still under doctors’ observation.
“Sabturani is undergoing physical check-up while Tong will undergo an X-ray soon,” he said yesterday.
Jalaluddin said the incident happened when a narcotics police team from the Kepayan Police Contingent acted in response to a drug activity tip-off near Salut Commercial Centre around 2pm yesterday.
“Two suspicious men were seen in the area and when police approached and introduced themselves, both suspects tried to run away.
“A struggle occurred between the suspects and the two policemen, and we managed to detain one of the suspects while the second suspect managed to escape by running up a hill nearby,” Jalaluddin said, adding that the police found two plastic packets of crystal-like substance believed to be syabu on the first suspect.
“As the policemen were inspecting the suspect, gunshots were fired, believed to be from the hill, at our personnel.
“Sergeant-major Sabturani and constable Tong were injured as a result,” said Jalaluddin.
It is learnt that Sabturani sustained a head injury while Tong sustained head, body and face injuries.
It is believed that the gunshots were fired by the suspect who managed to escape with the help of a friend, he added.
The police did not open fire but had launched a manhunt for the suspects, he said.
Jalaluddin urged anyone with information on the case to immediately contact the nearest police station. (1 October 2015)
