KOTA MARUDU: Gabungan Sabah (USA) or United Sabah Alliance will be celebrating Sabah Day on August 31 at the Kota Marudu New Township.
According to the celebration's organizing chairperson, Jornah Mozihim, the event would start at 9am and end at 3pm.
The Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) Women Movement chief said that the sole objective of this celebration was to instill the spirit of patriotism among the people of Sabah and to raise awareness on the contribution by past leaders, namely the late Tun Fuad Stephens, the late Tun Datu Mustapha Harun and the late Datuk G.S. Sundang on their role towards achieving independence for Sabah in 1963 as well as to commemorate the State's independence on August 31, 1963.
Talks by prominent leaders well-versed in the history of Sabah will be also be delivered mainly covering historical facts on Sabah's independence and in line with the spirit of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the 20-points protection for Sabah's rights.
Sabah Day 2016 is organized by Gabungan Sabah (USA) and several NGOs.
"We would like to assure the public that approval to use the intended area to hold the celebration has been obtained.
"This peaceful celebration will also be held under the Peaceful Assembly Act and the police have been notified. This the second time Gabungan Sabah with several NGOs will be organising such an event, the first one being last year which was held in Kundasang.
"We are expecting some 2,000 people mainly from around Kota Marudu as well as from other parts of Sabah to join us in the celebration," she said.
