PETALING JAYA - DAP lawmaker Zairil Khir Johari has explained himself to the party's top leadership over controversial photos allegedly depicting him in close proximity with a woman.
Penang DAP chief Chow Kon Yeow said the Bukit Bendera MP had appeared before the party's secretary-general Lim Guan Eng on Tuesday afternoon.
"Since this is an attack on his privacy, Zairil has requested to sort out the issue himself for the time being.
"This statement was released to keep the public informed," said Chow in a statement, Thursday.
On Tuesday, four pictures of a couple, resembling Zairil and a woman youth leader, were widely circulated on social media.
The two were seen seated at a table in a restaurant with at least two other people.
However, Zairil denied that it was him in the photos, and described it as an attempt to "malign me with personal attacks".
The woman is said to resemble DAP Youth committee member Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Dyana Sofya said it was the third personal attack on her in two months.
She said no matter who was in the photos or videos in which she was allegedly featured, these were privacy intrusions into that person's life.
On Thursday, a fifth photo resembling the two emerged.
Zairil could not be reached for comments.
