KOTA KINABALU - Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah will continue to fight for Sabahans through Gabungan Sabah even though it is one member short with the departure of Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS).
Its president, Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin, said its commitment to fight alongside Gabungan Sabah was based on its belief that as a coalition of local-based opposition parties, it would be the best platform to realise the people’s aspirations.
Lajim in a statement said this was in line with the rakyat’s wishes for local-based opposition parties to unite in airing their aspirations and championing their rights as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
“On that basis, Parti Harapan Sabah joined Gabungan Sabah and will continue to work with the other component members to ensure that all the rakyat’s demands will be fulfilled if given the mandate to form the state government,” he said.
The Klias assemblyman believes that Sabahans will give their support to Gabungan Sabah because national-based parties are unable to fully understand their demands and needs.
“Parti Harapan Sabah is disappointed with PCS’ decision to leave Gabungan Sabah but we respect its decision and stand. I also support the call by Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) for PCS members who are not happy with the decision to leave Gabungan Sabah to join any of its remaining member parties.
“Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah’s doors are always open to PCS leaders and members who want to continue their struggles through Gabungan Sabah,” he stressed.
