Patriotic Sabah NGOs to celebrate 55th Sabah Day

KOTA KINABALU - A group of patriotic Sabahan NGOs will be participating in a mass signature campaign to demand the government to recognise 31st August public holiday as "Sabah Day".

Organised by Borneo Heritage Foundation (BHF), it's organising chairman Jalumin Bayogoh said that the signatures gathered will be accompanied with a memorandum to be handed to the state and federal governments for their further actions.

200 Sabah flag-bearers will take part in a Freedom Walk from the Donggongon Sigah roundabout area at 7:30am to the Penampang Sports Complex on 31st August 2018. The procession will be led by State assemblyman for Bingkor Robert Tawik.

Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, president of Borneo Heritage Foundation (BHF) and former Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee are among the speakers at the event.

There will be an exhibition of Sabah giant flags for the first time which was used when the British flag was lowered on 31 August 1963. Giant flag will be prepared by participants and displayed in the centre of the sports field.

A pantomine depicting Sabah's history and independence will be performed to bring awareness and remind the people the true picture and facts of Sabah's glorious past.

There were several Sabah Day programs held during the month of August 2018 (Sabah Merdeka Month), since its launch on 2/8/2018 in Donggongon Town. Among others were Mini Merdeka walk in Bongawan District, Kiulu District, Sook District, Sepanggar District and Tambunan District.

The organisers welcome the general public to come to Penampang Sports Complex on 31st August and join the "Sabah Day" chorus. Food and beverage outlets are available at the site. Event will stretch until 4pm.

Happy Sabah Independence Day 2018!
