Papa Gomo arrested for racist, seditious video

IPOH - Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun confirms the arrest of blogger Papa Gomo or Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris yesterday.

His arrest is to facilitate investigation involving a video he posted that has been claimed as an attempt to incite the public over racial issues.

Mohamad Fuzi said the arrest was made based on his statements deemed as seditious, adding that racial issues should not be highlighted in such a manner.

"If we let this happen, it will lead to other issues related to security," he said at a press conference after witnessing the handing over of duties of the Perak police chief, here, today.

At the ceremony, deputy Perak police chief Datuk Razarudin Husain@Abd Rasid will shoulder the responsibilities of the state's chief of police following the mandatory retirement of Datuk Hasnan Hassan.

Meanwhile, checks on a Facebook account under the name of 'Sir Azri' believed to belong to Wan Muhammad Azri found a live video posted yesterday with the title 'Ini Tanah Melayu'.

It is believed this is the video that led to his arrest. The video has been viewed over 320,000 times with close to 10,000 shares.

Mohamad Fuzi said action will not only be taken against Wan Muhammad Azri but also anyone who uses social media to incite racial sentiments and cause unrest amongst members of the public.
