Bersih 3.0 - April 28, 2012
KOTA KINABALU: BERSIH Sabah 3.0 will go on as planned today at Padang Merdeka at 2pm – 4pm in spite of resistances put up by various parties as reported in the media.
“We are members of the public; therefore we are entitled to attend the programme if we wish to. Too much has been put at stake for fellow Malaysians. Civil liberties are being threatened, we must act now!” says BERSIH Sabah spokesperson Andrew Ambrose, also known as Atama.
“It is apparent that the government had not been serious about electoral reform, regardless of the fact that a Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) on electoral reforms was formed on 15th August 2011.”
A total of 22 recommendations by the PSC have been issued earlier this month, a number of which were seen as good. However, a few key issues were not covered by the PSC, including the instances of manipulation of the electoral roll by removing names, changing polling station boundaries and other obvious discrepancies; invitation of International Election Observers; among others.
“It was also with utmost shock to all of us when we discovered that amendments were made quietly to the Elections Offences Act, of which completely erases all the good that came from recommendations made by BERSIH and PSC. We are no longer assured of a transparent election process when Barung agents are no longer allowed, and Polling Agents and Counting Agents are only allowed in at the whims and fancy of the Election Commission.
“How can we trust that democracy is still alive and well in Malaysia?” queries Atama.
It is also publicly known that as of today, there has been no news whatsoever on the formation of a Royal Commission of Inquiry to address undocumented migrants, a long standing plight of Sabahans. The National Registration Department has not released any figures as to how many foreign aliens have been granted citizenship since 1970. However, it is estimated that there are 737,000 of them are recipients of 'Project IC' and 200,000 of them are eligible to vote.
Other figures to support the growing fears of Sabahans of being outnumbered comes from the Population Distribution and Basic Demographic Characteristics 2010 report published by the Department of Statistics, Malaysia which reveals that more than 1 in 4 residents in Sabah is not a Malaysian citizen, or 27.7%.
As such, BERSIH Sabah will no longer tolerate such dirty games and being ignored when it comes to very real and damaging issues.
“We want our future to be decided by Malaysians for Malaysians!” is a view echoed firmly by all supporters of BERSIH.
Whether this movement benefits only the opposition party is irrelevant. People should have the power to decide their future. We may vote for either party in the next GE and as easily vote them out if they don’t live up to our expectations. That is true democracy.
We love our country, therefore we want it to be better. We want a chance to be fairly heard. This is not a fight for just a select few, but for the millions of Malaysians worldwide.

The DBKK was very cooperative with Bersih's request to hold the rally at Padang Merdeka, I remember the Bangkit rally not long before has gotten support from the City Hall as well as the police force. So far all is well with the police keeping things smooth and peaceful.
ReplyDelete1,2,3 Bangkit rally was a success, thanks to the police for ensuring the safety and peace.
DeleteDemocracy is still alive when the authorities allowed the rally to be held, there is still hope for us.
ReplyDeleteIn Sabah yes, but not in WM I guess.
DeleteDBKL allowed the Bersih Rally to be held, they have only requested the Bersih organizers to change the location to Stadium Merdeka instead of Dataran Merdeka, however Ambiga is not willing to compromise.
DeleteToo bad I'm so far away from my hometown,kk. if not i would rather be joining them. It's a peace program. Everyone can join. We gather peacefully. Not to make trouble. That's our right. People shouldn't worry come. May God the almighty protect those people there. :)
ReplyDeleteSabah Bersih seems to be less aggressive that those in WM. Sabahans are well-behaved. Hope the pilaks don't make chaos in Padang Merdeka.
DeleteThis goes on to show that Sabahans are different from West Malaysians. We are peace loving people.
ReplyDeleteRoad blocks here and there!!
DeleteIndeed but luckily no one hurts in the rally.
DeleteToday, still have road blocks.
DeleteI don't think BERSIH will make such a huge change in Sabah.
DeleteI don't think BERSIH will make a huge change in Sabah.
ReplyDeleteI don't think many Sabahans will join this Bersih. They are concern about the integrity of EC but they don't think it it necessary to assemble and protest.
DeletePerhimpunan ini hanya akan merosakkan suasana.
ReplyDeleteMemang pun.
DeleteBanyak roadblock kena buat, sampai sekarang pun..
DeleteWe need to see the purpose. Hoping they can achieve their target.
DeleteI thought the assembly is at 10am.
ReplyDeleteMany tarnished the Bersih image in KL which turn to more of a Riot. I was there when the poor police drive to a few people on the curve. These Bersih people threw a brick on the driver face and i was shocked?? Then probably he lost conciousness and swerved to the right.. The diver actually have a clear path infront of him and have no reason to knock people there..
ReplyDeleteI joined the sit-in an a peaceful manner but changed my perspective when i see the true face of these people.
Later they claimed the turned over the car coz someone was beneath it. LIES.. ALL LIES... No one was there.
If we want to have a clean election so these ppl can be in power,.. i pray to god NEVER.
Somehow, these group wanted the whole world to see what a barbaric culture we have in Malaysia and they are the culprit..
From what i see and read ALL the LIES, my vote have SWUNG to BN.. They say it cant get any worst as the present government is already bad,.. IT CAN.
And to you Ambiga, theres blood on your hands now but it doesnt seem to bother you at all...
Have you ever thought that some FAKE Bersih people were actually planted by BN to cause the riots ?
DeleteBN has a good track record in buying people and votes and sadly you are now one of their victims.
You believe what you think can blame the other parties for all BERSIH wrong doings.. Is this our culture ?? Instill VIOLENT into their childrens mind ??? Look at how many childrens was there, wearing yellow shirts with Bandanas??? These are irresponsible parents who teaches their childrens to resort into violents when they dont get what they want..
DeleteI dont need anyone to buy my votes,.. I'm pretty well off enough by doing my own thing. I dont need handouts, thank you.. yeah! yeah!.. you will say i get business from the government.. This is what people with problems in their head will say.
DeleteNot all of us is lazy to improve our lives.. we work.
Whats your comments of PAS paying its supporters from kelantan to come to KL and create this hoo haa... Is it right to pay someone to create problems to other people ? Well, this i read from bloggers, statement from these PAS ppl from Kelantan. True or not, its something to think about.
It seems that these ppl uses their children as human shields.. These parents should be locked and throw away the keys...
DeleteThese a reply from one of the protestors... Who are you to say i'm not there???? you're just one of those whom the country gain nothing or lose nothing if you just dont exist...
ReplyDeleteThanks BERSIH.. Looking forward for BERSIH 4.0... Sold all my t shirts and even my friend who opens a drink stalls profited enough to put a deposit a Proton Preve... hahaha.. and the water was from the pipe of one of the buildings..
ReplyDeleteWell, it should be O.K if the intention is to voice out to the government the needs of the people and not to creat any ill feeling, emotion amount the people . Malaysia is a democracy country. we have to learn to respect each other of different races, religion etc.
ReplyDeletenasib baik perhimpunan bersih di Sabah berlangsung aman, tapi ia juga menyebabkan jalan sesak. habis rosak planning orang. di Dataran Merdeka pula habis huru hara. apapun, perhimpunan ini hnya bawa byk masalah saja.
ReplyDeleteSabahans memang cintakan keamanan. Apa guna adakan perhimpunan aman tapi nampak macam rusuhan
DeleteTumb up for Sabahans
ReplyDeleteThe government has to listen to the voice of its people.
ReplyDeleteHopefully we’ll all experience a free and fair election.
ReplyDeleteThe people are only asking for a change of betterment.
ReplyDeleteAdvice to all cast your vote prudently.
ReplyDeleteGreat people of Sabah…the best is here to stay!
ReplyDeleteHow do you measure success??DO you also consider the fact that BERSIH is free from political interference? Is BERSIH really free from the interference from other unconcerned parties?
ReplyDeleteI'd say BERSIH is marginally a success, but failed in many areas.
Kekecohan berlaku.
