Jeffrey to Pakatan: Don't become another Umno in Sabah

The ideal arrangement to topple BN in Sabah is for Pakatan Rakyat to "not even contest in parliamentary seats" says Jeffrey Kitingan.

KOTA KINABALU: The United Borneo Alliance (UBA) is ready to talk to Pakatan Rakyat and local opposition parties to achieve proper seat allocations for the opposition parties in Sabah.

Declaring UBA’s stand, its chairman Jeffrey Kitingan said: “Let me make it clear again that we are for the one-to-one fight formula and that the opposition parties should definitely work together.

“But the co-operation must be based on the understanding that we have to work on two different but connected levels.”

Jeffrey was responding to PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail’s call for co-operation with STAR, and DAP Labuan’s accusation that STAR was helping BN to win.

During the launching of STAR’s three divisions (Penampang, Putatan and Kota Kinabalu) last Saturday, Jeffrey said that if STAR was not given sufficient participation in seat allocation discussions among the opposition parties, or if such discussions fail, STAR may have to go for its “Plan Z” which would be to contest all seats on its own.

“We need to throw all our combined weights to topple the BN federal and state governments.

“But this can best be done with the Pakatan playing a minor role in the Sabah election, while the bigger role must be given to local parties,” he said.

State seats for UBA

Explaining what he meant by co-operating on two levels, Jeffrey said that Pakatan must give the state seats to the UBA while it will concentrate on parliamentary seats.

“In fact, the ideal arrangement would be for Pakatan not to contest even the parliamentary seats, and the Pakatan party members would be supporting the local parties contesting.

“This is the best way to win the election, and the people of Sabah are in fact now very excited about this strategy which has never been used before.”

He said such a step would be consistent with the pledge by DAP and PKR to champion for the rights and autonomy of Sabah, adding that if the two parties insist in contesting state seats it would clearly show they are not sincere about their pledge.

“If PKR and DAP can agree on this, it will immediately erase the widespread belief now that PKR is here to become another Umno.

“If this can be accepted then we are ready to sit down and talk, and the sooner the better,” Jeffrey said.

  1. A new party with no track record n have not done anything for Sabahan but already start demanding big. If not given what he ask for he threaten to be a spoiler by contesting in all seat.

Clearly he is arrogant n greedy.

    1. PR with a bad track record in Sabah should let UBA take care of all seats in Sabah.

PR already contesting in 75% of all seats in Malaya should let UBA take care of the remaining 25% of seats in Sabah and Sarawak.

Failure to do so only means PR is nothing but greedy for power.

    2. Obviously PKR is greedy. They are so eager to become the federal govt. In the end, they fall into their own trap.

    3. Star claims that they will contest 60 seats in Sabah on their own. Are they expecting the other opposition parties to make way for them to contest one on one with BN?

    4. Only as a last resort aka Plan Z.

UBA including SAPP must stand united as 1.

If PR decides to go alone, Sabahans still has a choice of 1 to 1, that is Local Borneo Party vs Party Malaya.

    5. Come on, STAR is chasing after PR now. So hows the negotiation?

    2. based on Sabah's political history, both K brothers have been cheated by greedy parties from Malaya.

Even the FROG culture was imported from Malaya.

    2. Agree. If PKR is sincere, they will let the local opposition parties to contest all seats in Sabah and PKR focus on Malaya. Ini belum ada apa2 sudah mahu gaduh itu ini.

  4. Now at least some people are beginning to see some sense in what STAR is all about and hopefully they will also see what SAPP true colours are.The opposition is now slowly exposing their true intentions and arrogance even before stepping into the corridor of power. The problem is their supporters are just prematurely excited about their leaders without even delving into the deep nature of their leadership and intentions.

I have always had my reservations and suspicions on what JK leadership means to STAR but many do not seem to see it.They shout when JK shouts, yell when JK yells and perhaps prick their noses when JK pricks his nose.

Now its apparent and obvious what JK as a person is all about. If I am still faulted for this comment then I urge all STAR supporters to search themselves and accept the fact that what they see and hear is not the person who is really what they think he is.

JK's struggles and proposed reforms are just pep talk but without the will to actually make them a reality. In malay we call it 'kata-kata semangat sahaja'and means nothing to him.It is a case of 'the end justifies the means'and he will do anything with the little support and enthusiasm he receives to achieve his goal.STAR supporters should therefore exercise caution,'waspada' and ensure that they will not be used as 'cows'to be dragged through their noses to help this fella realise his dreams.Or should I say nightmares.

  5. Whether Star is sincere or not..the only one thing I believe is Sapp who is sincerely fighting for Sabah, for its autonomy, a fighter party no doubt which left the BN when it was still in government to overthrow the BN govt in the 916 which unfortunately did not materialize...as the Sapp president said, it was the window of opportunity to make a change, changing the federal government. PR should acknowledge this sincere and deep sacrifice by SAPP. It is 4 years since Sapp left the BN in 2008...what more trust does Pakatan need for Sapp to prove???

Sapp intend to win more seats and bargain for the best terms and go back to BN.
Just wait and you will see.
The best option is give zero to Sapp and support Dap.
