SAPP: Issue a guarantee on public land
Queville To
City dwellers are concerned about the grand sell-off of public property by the state government under Chief Minister Musa Aman.
KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) will use all means to ensure prime public land in the city is not sold off by the Barisan Nasional state government under Chief Minister Musa Aman.
Two opposition state assembly representatives, Liew Teck Chan (Likas) and Melanie Chia (Luyang), will raise issue of the status of the Kota Kinabalu High Court and City Library land at the coming State Legislative Assembly sitting later this month.
They said they would demand a debate on the issue as long as there is no guarantee by the chief minister that these two pieces of land would be reserved for public use. They announced their intention during a news conference held at its Luyang office here.
“We will raise this issue in accordance with the Standing Orders of the assembly. We hope this Cabinet will not be irresponsible and refuse to entertain this issue of public interest by abusing the so-called ‘defeated by time’ tactic like when the BN leaders avoided debate on the Saham Amanah Sabah (SAS) issue two years ago,” said Chia.
The State Legislative Assembly will sit next week for three days on July 16, 17 and 18.
“We will raise this issue because the assemblyman for the Api Api constituency, within which the High Court and Library are situated, has refused to promise that these public lands will be retained for public purpose,” Chia said.
Dr Yee Moh Chai, who is also a Deputy Chief Minister, has remained silent on whether the prime property that also include the KK City Hall building and the Women and Children Clinic next to the Chong Thien Vun Park would be protected.
City dwellers have expressed concern about the loss of urban public lands, citing the cases of the Likas Wetlands and Atkinson Clock Tower, the State Railway reserve and KK Sea Front, among others as examples of a grand sell-off of public property by the state government under Musa.
“We will wait until Monday for the chief minister to promise that these city centre lands will be protected and reserved for public purpose before we take further action on raising this issue at the assembly,” said Chia.

ReplyDeleteIs Yong has intention to become a CM again? This is dangerous.

.terikut budaya seberang.
DeleteLepas ni tapak tu mau buat bangunan shopping kompleks ka atau mau dibuat taman awam gitu??
DeleteMusa is not going to sell the public land.
ReplyDeleteSalah tafsir maklumat mungkin.
DeleteSAPP sengaja pusingkan maklumat.. nak kelirukan rakyat.
DeleteBegitulah kerja SAPP, pusing2 maklumat, cuba mengelirukan rakyat. Harap rakyat janganlah cepat terpedaya.
Deletekenapa pula perlu jual?
DeleteThe oppositions have started accusing CM again.
ReplyDeleteIs there something else SAPP is looking for?
ReplyDeleteLike someone said…publicity is what they seek.
DeleteBila dah dekat PRU, mestilah kena berusaha cari publisiti.
DeleteSAPP cari publisiti murahan, mentang2 mau dekat PRU, sanggup buat apa saja.
Deletebila mau dekat pru semua pun mahu jadi hero.
DeleteWho knows how true this is?
ReplyDeleteI guess Musa will have to say something about this by himself.
DeleteWell that is the only way to clear the air.
DeleteThe land belongs to the people and shouldn’t be taken away from them.
ReplyDeleteIt's a public land. No one is taking it from anybody.
DeleteOnly the law governing land property can protect the people thereof.
ReplyDeleteIt will be absolutely disappointing if it ever happens.
ReplyDeleteNot as such will ever happen…full stop.
DeleteMake up stories out there.
ReplyDeleteI just hope the law will protect the right of the people and their properties.
ReplyDeletePlease do not sabotage the people's legacy.
ReplyDeleteLet’s see what happens thereafter.
ReplyDeleteMaximus said that it was only by surveying the NCR land could the native land be protected from intrusion by huge companies most of which were not owned by locals.
DeleteMaximus Ongkili has urged the state government to double its current allocation to clear the backlog of land claims involving the natives and allow land survey to progress.
ReplyDeleteHopefully the backlogs will be cleared efficiently.
Deleteteruskan sokong UMNO....nanti2 semua perkampungan berdekatan kk akan diambil olih Musa untuk buat projek tambah kaya diri....
ReplyDeleteOur historical heritage must be protected.
ReplyDeleteSAPP will do anything to have publicity..stop talking nonsense..
ReplyDeleteIt's up to the people whether they will fall for it or not.
DeleteForget about it, the people knew what sort of opportunist Yong Teck Lee is.
ReplyDeleteJust like always, this is their political strategy since the very beginning.
ReplyDeleteThe general elections is getting nearer, of course they need to attract more attention from the public.
DeleteThis is the best time to act the hero, how can they resist?
DeleteThey will grab all the issues they can get their hands on and politicize it for political leverage.
ReplyDeleteThis is generally what happens before every elections.
ReplyDeleteWe should not blame on the Government because we don't see and know what is actually happen. But i am sure that the government doing well in term of the land issue in Sabah. May be some of us did not know that recently SABAH plans to implement more land development projects under a scheme (under the PPRT Programme) in the interior as part of a concerted effort to eradicate poverty. For info : Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said the land schemes in Kalabakan and Tongod had proved to be successful with the 1,167 hardcore poor involved receiving a monthly dividend of RM400 each.
ReplyDeleteSo we can see that there are a positive side of the Government. People are busy looking for the negative side but forgot to seek the positive side of the Government. So, let us give full support to the Government.
ReplyDeleteso how about Yong Teck Lee who sold out our forest covered 300000 hectares to 265 his cronies??
ReplyDeleteI think Sapp will agree if the land given to his cronies for 999 years..
ReplyDeleteThe Prime Minister's Department on said the construction of the new Kota Kinabalu Court Complex has been approved by the Federal Government under the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP).
ReplyDeleteMahani Mohd Yusoff, Corporate Communications Chief under the Legal Affairs Division of the PM's Department, said the complex is to be implemented under the division's development budget.
ReplyDeleteMahani said the present site of the Kota Kinabalu Court would be handed over to the Sabah State Government once the court has moved to its new complex.
ReplyDeleteThe Sabah State Government has agreed to the identified site in Bukit Punai, Luyang. The construction of the new complex is essential in order to guarantee comfort for those who have dealings at the court.
ReplyDeleteMahani said it is in line with the 1Malaysia slogan that gives priority to serve the people's interests.
ReplyDeleteThe more comfortable working environment which this new complex would be able to provide, will enable court staff to offer more efficient service. The proposal to move the court to Bukit Punai received objections from the public, with Sabah Law Association (SLA) among them.
ReplyDeleteIt said the new location in Bukit Punai raises serious issues on accessibility and amenities. The public, it said, would be inconvenienced travelling to the area concerned not to mention the site as being non user-friendly.
ReplyDeleteKampung folk attending court for legal and administrative purposes would also incur higher costs in travelling to the new courthouse compared to the present one, it claimed.
ReplyDeleteIt said there would be difficulty in looking for parking, besides traffic congestion especially during the beginning and close of school hours.
ReplyDeleteFormer Chief Minister Tan Sri Harris Mohd Salleh, on the other hand, said many countries around the world including Malaysia are moving their courthouses from busy cities to suitable and prominent places.
ReplyDeleteBukit Punai, he argued, not only has a commanding hilltop view but also surrounded by roads.
ReplyDeleteHe said the area is also not congested and that the 25-acre land could be developed into a beautiful landscape with benches where lawyers and the public can sit and relax during recess.
