Dr Jeffrey - STAR is now a big party in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU - STAR Sabah Chairman, Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said that STAR is no longer a “mosquito” party but a strong and significant political party in Sabah with a big following during STAR Sabah’s first anniversary with their theme "Selamatkan Sabah Tanah Airku" last weekend.

“Compared to PKR which took six to seven years to get about 60,000 members, STAR has attracted 270,000 members within a short span of 12 months” he said.

Among STAR’s successes include its most effective slogan ‘INI KALI LAH” which are now being copied and echoed by other opposition parties even in the Peninsular, he added.

The other significant success is its BTP (Borneo Tea Party) program which is run by UBF (United Borneo Front) to educate the people on Sabah/Malaysia’s political-economic history with analysis, facts and figures.  This program didn’t need much money to run and provided effective social interaction that includes questions and answer sessions.

The anniversary was also attended by top leaders of the United Borneo Alliance (UBA) including SAPP and USNO and about 5,000 people.

  1. While Pakatan leaders condemn party-hopping in the peninsula, they are openly encouraging it in Sabah.

  2. Actually, Sabah politicians are in a class of their own when it comes to party-hopping and Dr Jeffrey's last stop was PKR which he left amid some acrimony.

  3. Dr Jeffrey has grown older and stockier and is no longer the “cute Kitingan brother” but he is still charming and ambitious. His latest battle cry of “Sabah for Sabahans” has captured local imagination.

  4. He has revived what he calls the Borneo Agenda, basically the 20 Points spelling out regional rights and autonomy for Sabah when it became part of the Federation of Malaysia in 1963.

  5. He has been accused of flogging an old horse to win new votes but the 20 Points have always resonated with the Kadazandusun who feel overwhelmed by federal dominance and issues such as Islamisation and illegal immigrants.

  6. But it is a rather sensitive topic, its advocates have often been painted as secessionists, and Dr Jeffrey was once held under the ISA for pushing it.

  7. “Jeffrey's new platform could be a vote-spoiler in the Kadazandusun seats,” said a Kota Kinabalu-based journalist.

  8. Sabah political scientist Dr Arnold Puyok told a forum that at least three parliamentary seats could go to the opposition and as many as 18 state seats in urban and Kadazandusun areas could go either way.

  9. Dr Jeffrey is not quite a gamechanger but he could take away votes from PBS and Upko, the other two Kadazandusun parties who are in Barisan.

  10. The challenge for the opposition is how to strike an agreement among themselves so that there will be only one-to-one fights with the Barisan. It will not be easy because SAPP and DAP are eyeing the same seats while Jeffrey is unlikely to give way to PKR on choice seats. There is no love lost between Dr Jeffrey and Anwar.

  11. Every politician in Sabah wants to be an election candidate and every warlord thinks he is Chief Minister material.

  12. For instance, Lajim and Bumburing's latest political moves have to do with the fact that they may not be retained as candidates in the general election and are looking for a new platform for the contest.

  13. Pelancaran Parti STAR Sabah pada 6 Januari 2012 menampakkan Dr. Jeffri Kitingan beria-ia ingin membuat perubahan di Sabah.

  21. Kalau di Sarawak, Parti STAR ni macam "Tahi Telinga" jak. Mau tinggal dalam telinga orang padahal dia tu "tahi telinga". Buat kempen sana sini pengaruhi telinga orang supaya mendengar.

  22. Mau perintah konon tetapi tiada hala tulu....cakap jak banyak untuk pengaruhi rakyat.

    3. Imej Jeffrey adalah kurang baik di Sabah.

  25. Cuma dia sengaja mau buat kacau untuk mengucar-kacirkan rakyat Sabah.

  26. Daripada sini kita nampak bahawa ternyata Dr. Jeffri Kitingan seperti orang 'desperate' a.k.a terdesak dalam politik di Sabah ni.

  27. HAPUSKAN Parti STAR dari bumi SABAH!!! Jangan terima Parti STAR sebab Parti STAR berasal dari Sarawak!

  28. Kepada yang sudah masuk Parti STAR dan sudah menjadi pengikut Dr. Jeffri tu, keluarlah beramai-ramai.
