KUALA LUMPUR: Political parties will be given 10 minutes airtime each on Radio-Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) to present their manifestos after Parliament is dissolved to pave the way for the 13th general election.
Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said the opportunity was being given to both Barisan Nasional and the Opposition, but the presentation would be pre-recorded.
"It is up to the parties whether to use the facility or not, but we in the ministry are ready to implement this," he told reporters at Angkasapuri here Friday.
He said the opportunity was being provided to respect the democratic system in the country and hoped the 10 minutes would be enough for the parties to forward their respective manifestos.
Dr Rais, however, said the presentation of the manifestos must be done according to the terms and conditions set by RTM and would be supervised by the ministry's secretary-general and a panel headed by the broadcasting director-general.
"I am not involved in this, nor are any other ministers," he said.
Dr Rais said the manifestos presented cannot discredit or defame anyone, relate to matters on the country's security, insult the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, belittle human rights or touch on people's sensitivities.
"These requirements and other information will be handed over to the Election Commission, as well as other quarters who will play a role in presenting the manifestos," he added.
The country's 13th general election is expected to be held in the coming weeks.
The current Parliament held its first sitting on April 28, 2008 and automatically dissolves at midnight on April 27.
The last general election was held on March 8, 2008.
Political parties must make good use of the facilities.
ReplyDeleteSince the time duration given is only 10 mins, the political parties must avoid bashing about other parties and focus on the manifesto.
DeleteTanggung jawab masing-masing harus dijalankan.
DeleteHaving the government to implement this indicates that the government is indeed respecttive towards the democratic system
ReplyDeleteWe people should listen to what the political parties has to say in order to decide which party should be voted.
ReplyDeleteEvaluate wisely, vote wisely.
ReplyDeleteBarisan Nasional (BN) has the edge to win the 13th general election (GE) and wresting at least two states from theopposition, according to a study carried out by several lecturers.
ReplyDeleteAssoc Prof Dr Fuad Mohd Jali from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) saidthe BN was leading if a study conducted on 1,400 respondents in Kedah and Selangor from March to May was anything to go by.
Delete"In Selangor, the respondents banked their hope on the BN while in Kedah the situation is 50-50, but it may change," he said at a roundtable themed "The 13th GE: Who is Malaysia'' Choose'' organised by the National Council of Professors'' Politics, Security and International Affairs Cluster.
DeleteFuad, who is UKM School of Social, Development and Environment chairman, said the 13th GE would be the acid test of whether the BN had restored its support or whether the opposition would maintain its stranglehold in four states.
DeleteOn the whole, he said 69.6 percent of the respondents indicated that the BN would win the 13th GE in which 37.5 per cent felt it would a landslide victory while 32.1 percent by a simple majority. For the Selangor state election, he said 54.1 per cent of the respondents went for the BN, 14.4 percent (PAS), three per cent (PKR) and the rest (not sure) while at the parliamentary level, 57 per cent wanted the BN, 20.6 per cent (opposition) and 22.4 per cent (not sure).
DeleteFuad said based the results deduced from simulation studies carried out in Selangor based on the 11th and 12th GEs, the present voter profile and the BN reputation indicated that the BN would win 40 state seats.
DeleteIn Kedah, 50.7 per cent of the respondents opted for PAS for the state seats, 49.3 per cent (BN) while the rest (not sure), he said.
DeleteHe said the leadership and popularity of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak would be a major contributing factor that would give the BN the edge to win the 13th GE.
Delete"An average of 87.4 per cent of respondents aged between 21 and 60 supported Najib. Seventy-six percent said Najib portrays very good image compared to opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat," said Fuad.
DeleteHe said while the BN lost the support of young people in 2008, Najib had turned the tide against the opposition by garnering their support through the ''magnet module'' approach by implementing political transformation and engaging them through social networking.
DeleteAssoc Prof Dr Rohana Yusof from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), who conducted a study on 10,800 respondents in Kedah from November 2011 until February this year, said AS was losing its ground in Kedah as it had failed to fulfil the promises made in the last general election.
Delete"About 54 per cent of respondents stated that the PAS-led government should not be maintained, while 58 per cent felt that the BN should continue to be the government at the federal level," she said.
DeleteShe said the people of Kedah were more receptive to federal government''s policies against that of the state, and as such the BN should be given the mandate in Kedah.
DeleteRohana said the people also felt that they needed a capable menteri besar who is a trouble shooter, accessible to the people and more willing to go down to the grassroots to meet the people.
Delete"This gives an impression that Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak does not live up to their expectations.
Delete"Largely, the respondents wanted MP for Jerlun Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir to be the next MB if the BN wrested the state from PAS," said Rohana.
DeleteSaingan semakin hebat.
ReplyDeleteHow much air time did BN get for trash talking other parties?
ReplyDeleteInformation, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said the opportunity was being given to both Barisan Nasional and the Opposition, but the presentation would be pre-recorded.

DeleteHe said the opportunity was being provided to respect the democratic system in the country and hoped the 10 minutes would be enough for the parties to forward their respective manifestos.
ReplyDeleteya, saya sokong dengan pendapat beliau
Dr Rais, however, said the presentation of the manifestos must be done according to the terms and conditions set by RTM and would be supervised by the ministry's secretary-general and a panel headed by the broadcasting director-general.
ReplyDeleteDr Rais said the manifestos presented cannot discredit or defame anyone, relate to matters on the country's security, insult the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, belittle human rights or touch on people's sensitivities. --> indeed..
