KOTA KINABALU: Police have warned all political party supporters to be on their best behaviour Saturday which is Nomination Day, as well as during the campaign period and polling on May 5.
Sabah police spokesman Supt Azhar Hamin said police would be on the alert and said more than 7,000 police personnel from various departments will be stationed at the 25 nomination centers statewide to ensure safety of the public.
He disclosed that police are keeping a close tab on certain groups who police believe may attempt to disrupt the nominations process, adding that they have already received 14 election offence-related reports.
On the police reports he said there were burning of political party flags and threats which police are investigating.
“No arrests have been made so far in connection with the incidents”, he said in urging all political parties to abide by all regulations for a smooth election.
“Candidates and party supporters are also reminded not to touch on sensitive issues which may disturb public order and peace,” Azhar added.
