Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri and Corporal Sirul Azhar Umar’s appeal over their death sentence for murdering Mongolian woman Altantuya Shaariibuu begins today at the Court of Appeal.The appeal by the members of the police’s Special Action Unit will be heard for three days.
Deputy solicitor-general III Tun Abdul Majid Hamzah is leading the prosecution team that also comprises of DPPs Manoj Kurup and Noorin Badaruddin.
Lawyers Hazman Ahmad and J Kuldeep Kumar are appearing for Azilah.
Sirul is represented by Kamarul Hisham Kamaruddin, Ahmad Zaidi Zainal and Hasnal Rezua Merican.
The appeal is being heard before a three-member panel led by Justice Md Apandi Ali.
The other two panel members are Justices Linton Albert and Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat.
Md Apandi is a former Kelantan Umno treasurer.
