The use of the easily washed-off indelible ink, bribery and failure to observe the election law were among the grounds cited by the petitioners contesting the May 5 polls results in Kota Marudu, Pensiangan and Kudat.
KOTA KINABALU: Following former Umno warlord Lajim Ukin’s election petition to nullify the Beaufort constituency election results, three other PKR candidates who lost in the May 5 general elections did the same.
Maijol Mahap, Richard Sakian and Rahimah Majid respectively filed their election petitions seeking to nullify the results of the Kota Marudu, Kudat and Pensiangan parliamentary seats.
All three filed their petition at the High Court here yesterday.
Mahap named BN-PBS incumbent candidate Maximus Ongkili as the first respondent, returning officer for the Kota Marudu parliamentary seat and the Election Commission (EC) as the second and third respondents, respectively.
In his petition, Mahap cited the use of the indelible ink, instances of money bribery and failure to observe the election law which he alleged had affected the result of the election as a whole.
In the 13th general election, Mahap was involved in a four-cornered fight with Ongkili, Sabah State Reform Party’s (STAR) Majamis Timbong and Sabah Progressive Peoples Party’s Yuntau Kolod @ Kuntau Kolod.
Ongkili retained the seat by a 842 votes majority over Mahap.
Gunting meanwhile was involved in a four-cornered fight with Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) chief Joseph Kurup.
Kurup polled 9,467 votes against Gunting’s 7,723 votes. Other candidates in the fray, STAR’s Martin Tomy secured 3,554 votes while independent candidate Fatimah Agitor only got 152 votes.
In the Kudat parliamentary constituency, Rahimah is seeking to nullify BN-Umno candidate Abdul Rahim Bakri’s overwhelming win.
Abdul Rahim won the seat with a 12,736 votes majority.
On Tuesday Lajim filed his election petition at the Kota Kinabalu High Court citing several grounds including abuse of power, unqualified individuals casting their votes and alleged vote-buying. He also noted discrepancies in the polls process citing the easily washed-off indelible ink and the electricity blackout during the counting of ballots.
Lajim, 58, said his petition was substantiated by evidence including video clips.
In his petition, Lajim named returning officer Jupari@Jupri Etok, Umno-BN candidate Azizah Mohd Dun and the Election Commission as first, second and third defendants respectively.
Lajim, who had won the Beaufort parliamentary seat in the 2008 general election under the Umno banner, failed to defend his incumbency in the May 5 polls.
Azizah wrested the Beaufort seat by a slim majority of 673 votes.
In the latest general election Lajim stood on a PKR ticket.

ReplyDeleteThe opposition should not be given a chance to rule the country as it is only about one man, i.e. Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Although the general election is around the corner, the opposition front has yet to tell the people who would be the Deputy Prime Minister if Pakatan Rakyat win the election. Unlike Barisan Nasional, every one knows that Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will be the Prime Minister and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will be the Deputy once BN is returned to power. Anwar is only interested in himself being made Prime Minister and has no plans at all for the country.
DeleteYou're right. let's say if he was serious in the wellbeing of the country, he would have announced who would be the shadow Deputy PM. The people are kept in the dark about what they will get after the election. So the people should not take the risk and vote the opposition into power.Even in the context of Sabah, it is unclear who will be appointed to the Federal Cabinet or whether it will get a DPM as some quarters in the opposition are promising or is it just a tactic to fish for votes. Unlike BN, all the local BN components will get be represented in the Federal Cabinet.
