Tawau LDP divisions support Teo, Chin for top two posts

TAWAU - All the three Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) divisions here support sacked secretary-general Datuk Teo Chee Kang to contest the party’s president post and suspended senator Datuk Chin Su Phin for deputy in the coming party election in October.

The three divisions, Sri Tanjong, Balung and Apas, have invited Chin as guest of honor to declare open their annual general meeting yesterday and all their chairmen, Datuk Mok Khiong, Wong Siong Kiong and Thomas Lim announced their support at the function yesterday.

Chin said with the developments unfolding, it showed that party president Datuk Liew Vui Keong totally did not receive support from the party.

“Twenty-seven supreme council members signed up to call for a supreme council meeting on September 6 which is more than the one-third majority needed according to the party’s constitution. It’s totally legal,” he said yesterday.

He added the supreme council members were not breaching the resolution passed in the supreme council meeting on June 9, as they just supported the leadership to continue to lead but not to be challenged.

On Saturday, embattled Liew suspended or sacked 23 of its 35 supreme council members, including influential Chin.

He also sacked five appointed supreme council members – deputy secretary general Ho Jia Lit, treasurer general Fong Keng Sin, deputy treasurer general Albert Ngan Yun Kiang, chief publicity officer Albert Kok Yuk Ken and organising secretary Yong Wui Chung.

Four other division leaders, who allegedly failed to attend the last three supreme council meetings, were also removed.

Liew had earlier this week sacked Teo when he announced plans to take on the presidency, but the move sparked a mutiny with 27 of the 35 supreme council members demanding a meeting of the supreme council on September 6.
