Security guard in Setapak robbery used fake ID

KUALA LUMPUR - Police have confirmed that the security guard who robbed a jewellery store in KL Festival City Mall, Setapak was using a fake identity card.

City deputy police chief SAC Datuk Amar Singh said checks on the suspects revealed that his I.C number belonged to another individual.

“We are investigating the background of the suspect as well as the security firm that hired him, as to how he was employed and whether he had a proper license to carry a firearm,” SAC Amar said.

The suspect who was identified as Hikman Jacob ( 900328-12-5725) from Kampung Bingkor, Sabah, threatened employees with a pistol while they were opening the jewellery shop at around 9.30am Thursday.

He later walked out of the shop with a tray of 100 necklaces of a yet unknown amount.

He had reportedly only been working for the jewellery store for two month.

Branch manager Robert Lourdusamy said despite repeated requests, the suspect had never produced his identification card to his employer.

“Yesterday (Wednesday), he showed me a copy of his IC. It looked exactly like any other, but it was soft and felt as if it was a piece of cardboard,” Robert said.

“I told him that he would have to show his original IC today (Thursday) as we had to make a punch card for him.”

According to the Security Services Association of Malaysia (SSAM) website, a former Inspector-General of Police is a board of director of the security firm that hired the suspect.

When contacted, the security firm declined to comment on the vetting process of the suspect and whether he had a proper firearm license.

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said the Ministry was also investigating the circumstances of how the suspect was employed but said no planned action will be taken against the security firm as of yet until investigations were complete.

“I’m looking into the system how to strengthen the procedure, vetting recruitment, and guidelines on the background of individuals to be engaged as security guard,” he said.

Meanwhile, on the killer guard who shot dead a bank officer in a Subang Jaya AmBank before running off with RM450,000, Selangor poice chief DCP Datuk Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan said cops were confident they would make an arrest soon but did not elaborate further as it could jeopardize operations.
