KOTA KINABALU - Kidnapped Taiwanese tourist Chang An Wei is still safe, assured Sabah police commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib.
Hamza said they have information about the woman's whereabouts but did not disclose the location to media when met today.
"What I can tell you is that she is safe (and we hope she will continue to be safe)," he said after a dialogue on security with tourism stakeholders at Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort, here.
Meanwhile on the recording of a conversation between Taiwan authorities and gunmen that mentioned about ransom payment, Hamza believed it was a genuine call.
"The (Malaysian) police are investigating and we will cover all aspects including to determine whether ransom was made."
It is reported that An Wei's brother, Richard, is currently in the Philippines to secure the return of his sister.
He had also reported in Taiwan's Apple Daily to have said "very optimistic" when asked about his mission to bring An Wei home.
On Nov 15, gunmen broke into a Pom Pom Island Resort chalet and shot dead victim's husband Hsu Li Min before abducting her.
